I need to vent right now. First let me say this. THIS WAS NOT MY PARTY! This party was my partner and his girl friends idea. I won't mention the place as to not give the place a bad name. It's a very nice small place in Union, NJ. Now they talked them into having this party there last night and they agreed to let them have this party. They let them get the place for free.

They asked for me to help them with this party. Reluctantly I agreed to help. Now his girl friend had been trying to be this promoter. She's tried to promote parties around at different places and none of them have been a success. Only a few people have showed up to these parties.

I asked her what was the place doing to get people to come to the party. She said that it was her job as the promoter to get people to come. She did say the lady that works there was to put something in a paper. I don't know what that was. That's all I was told. So I let that go.

The planning of the party was a mess to begin with. It was to be free to get into the party. The music was to be from the days of Club Zanzibar and the Paradise Garage. I had to find out the day of that someone was to celebrate their birthday party at this party and they were looking for them to bring people to this party. They should have never depended on them to bring people to this party. That should have been in addition to the people she got to come to the party.

She said she got a text message that they were involved in an accident while on the way to the party. So they were a no show. That was a mess right there. I was just glad to hear they were alright. If that is the truth about what happened.

Anyway it was some people that were already there when we got there. They stayed for a while but after a while when they didn't see to many people come to the party they left. A couple of people I know showed up because of a text message I sent them. The thing was that people were texting her to find out what the dress code was for this party. They should have been known that long before the day of the party.

It was roughly around 11:30 and the spot was empty. So the bartender said for us to pack it up. They said the bartender panicked when he didn't see anybody in the place. She was upset because the party was to last till 2am. While I was driving she said a few people sent her a text message that they were on their way to the party. Now for me that wasn't enough people to justify staying there when the party was a bust.

The only promoting she did I understand was through FB and Twitter. They didn't have any postcards made up to tell people about the party. Even if it was a free party still if they were looking to build on something they should have had some postcards made up to pass out to their friends and family and to put in the place where the party was to be. They miss it big time. To make money you've got to spend money.

There's more I could say. I'll just leave my rant with these last 2 things. I knew that people weren't coming to this party because she doesn't know what the hell she is doing and hates to listen. I told them they need to find a place to play at regularly so people will get to know who they are and what they are about. Then if they want to venture out to do other things fine. Their way of doing things hasn't worked yet. Lastly like I said. THIS WAS NOT MY PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So please don't beat me up saying this was my party. I was just showing up to help out and that was it. No more no less. Have a nice day.

Mix .. It appears your friends are incompetent at planning things .. another reason to dissolve the partnership and forge your own path. Find some reliable help to move the equipment if needed, but start trying to figure out your own way.

And the business plan starts making more and more sense.

I'll go of on a sideline here. Any Bar, or Club that depends on outside forces to fill their establishment is a Club waiting to fail. I have seen it time and time again. Until they get it in their heads that they need to generate their own clientele they will forever be wishing and hoping. What were both parties expecting to get out of this arrangement, the Club business for that night and your friends a place to keep and promote parties?

Hell, I'd beat you up for having to read all that sh_t.

BTW, I believe that Dennis has the rights to "Have a nice day", and I have mine for the ellipses...

You beat me to it.......ANYTIME you and your "partner" do a job, it is a reflection on both of you....when this guy is out working, people know you are connected to him and anything he does is directly connected to you

Amazing is really all that comes to mind. You won't take a $300 wedding but instead you will do these parties where no one gets paid. Exactly how were you going to make money if it was free to get in?

If I may abbreviate the OP:

we did the same thing we did before and got the same result :)

btw, if you are going to use Dennis's tag line, do it right. Add the dramatic exclamation point.

Have a nice day!!!

Insanity, craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns.
Simply: Doing the same thing over & over again & again expecting different results.

What is the Difference between Mix and His Advisers!!

Isn't that what you all are doing, forever giving advise that isn't being taken! Why are you all wasting your time?

Yes, you are correct At first we try to help. After sometime this has become entertainment!!! I must admit, I don't even read MIXXXX's total posts. We all ready know. It's been the same thing over & over for years!

You're right. I was indirectly connected to this party. Even though it wasn't my idea. The party was a bust from the start. Such a party would be for those who partied in the 80's. That's over 20 years ago. Not many people who are still alive go out to parties unless it's both their kind of music that they like and they must know who you are. If they don't know you, they won't support you. Too many crazy things happening out here today. They must feel it's going to be a safe party first of all for them to come. Which means they would want to be around people that are close to their own age.

Canute I agree with you! I would have picked a place where there is already a crowd that comes there and not having to bring a crowd or the party is a bust. That's one of the reason's I like the bar in Orange, NJ. They 99% of the time already have a crowd that comes there. Either regulars or people that have heard what goes on there. Sometimes I'll post me being there on FB to see how many more I can get to come to the bar. I had a retirement party there and posted it on FB. The bar was jam packed that night. My ex even showed up with her girl friend she works with.

Mix, for Cripes sake, please log off and go and enjoy the rest of your Sunday. I'm fixing to go to Church!

Where did you get the expectation that there was going to be a party?

A room with a bartender and a DJ does not constitute a party.
Promoting the pointless is a fail - no matter how many postcards you print.

Not many people who are still alive go out to parties ...

Do you many dead ones that do?

... unless it's both their kind of music that they like and they must know who you are.

This is not true. I know lots of people that do go to parties that have no idea who the DJ is. Some do not know anyone at the event. I do agree that it probably is to music that they like - do you often go places to see or hear things you don't like?

Postcards are so that the word can get out about the party or event or whatever. It won't guarantee a thing but it can help if done right. Also what I would have done was had a poster made up to put in the place to advertise what is to happen there on such a such a date. Owners normally don't mind as they know why you're doing this and they want to see as many people show up to the party as possible. Hopefully a big turn out where people are drinking up a storm and they get to make plenty of money.
