Nice phone...Really nice for $99 with contract on AT&T.

I think there are limitations to all phones of course but this thing is super nice. The screen is amazing to look at. AMOLED I think...basically when you look at black on it the pixels are turned off.

Drawbacks....No SD slot and only works with Zune software...other than that this phone is going to make my wife ignoring my calls even more awesome!

Will be Windows 8 Ready too!

Let us know how she likes it. Personally, I have never liked a windows phone that I've tried, but I've never seen this one.

I will...I have the chance to upgrade my phone too...but I'm wise to wait until I can work through my wifes phone. I had an ATT Tilt once upon a time with Windows...it was ok....pretty good at some things...not so good at others.

Then I got the 32GB iPhone....It was great until IOS5 came out. Now its buggy as hell with no way to roll back. I'm pretty upset Apple won't let you roll back. I never was a fan but I've really enjoyed all their products I've owned. This idea of giving the option to update to IOS5 on a 2 year old phone with a 600mhz processor is ludicrous at best.

I've never tried Droid but I am considering the Samsung Galaxy Note with the 5.3" screen for me. Partly because I want to try some things with it on stage.

But if her Lumia 900 is super stable for few weeks I may just give up buying a $300 device and go with the $99.

I will say this....for a non-apple device the Lumia seems very well built. I remember having a Nokia 8 or 9 years ago and that thing was indestructible. I'm glad Nokia is back in this. Let's hope sales are good for them...I may hold off for their next round....who knows...Even if iPhone 5 is at least 4.3" I'd give it another shot...

I am sure your wife will love it. I have an HTC Titan2. Best phone I have ever had. Amazing graphics, 4.7" Screen, 4G LTE, 16 MP Camera (Yes 16MP) Killer processor. I really love the the OS of Windows Phone7.5. It Rocks...I upgraded to this just last week from a Dell Venue Pro WP7 phone. http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=HTC TITAN (TM) II - Blue Gray&q_sku=sku5920251#fbid=6A2me1FIlGN I had a rooted Android before that I personally enjoy the experience of the Mango (WP7.5) OS better myself. My wife has an Android HTC Vivid. The HTC are truly great phones and I have heard good things about the new Nokia 900

Looks like I might be getting this one free!

So I think I may go get one for myself...I really like what I see so far. Still need to play with it a bit. Also got to get used to Zune managing my music.

Also from what the reviews say about the camera its true...Good not great. Better than my iphone 3GS but just under the quality of most smartphones. That's fine. I don't use my phone for its camera anyway. I have a DSLR

So um...here's the delimma. I'm loving the samsung note. Just curious over the course of time with the Android did you see stability issues...hard resets or randome app closings?

Iphone 3GS never had a problem until they put out the IOS5 update. My brother swears by Android...He had the HTC Incredible and did all that rooting stuff to it and still loves it but its always unstable. I'm thinking "why bother" with an OS that drops calls/freezes/crashes etc.....Has nothing to do with the carrier I'm certain.

I like stability particularly if I'm driving and talking. WP users seems to like their phones for stability...its just that the offerings are behind and un customizable for certain things.

Really love to get that Note... Just wondering about configuration etc. I'm letting the reviews come in on that one...but people seem to love it.

I've never had an issue with any version of ios5 (I'm on a plain iPhone 4).

I live in the hills .. I'm lucky to get service let alone 4G ;)

@steve149 That's a good one. 4G LTE is awesome. Last week I was doing a gig and I played Good Feeling/Flo-Rida the Groom and was aked for a Christian song that i didn't have and aked if I could play it next. I used my phone to purchase it on Zune it doownloaded in 12 seconds....Once it was downloaded I imported to Itunes and imported to Traktor in less than a minute and had it playing right after Flo-Rida :)

Thanks Ray and Steve...

As for LTE not a big deal where I am. I also think the IOS5 update on any model after 3G should have been the route for apple....I just can't help but to think this is Apple's way of getting people to move into their newer models from the 3G to the 4's....kinda wierd with all the screwed up folks now like me. The phone is usable but really kind of agravating. Good battery in mine still....Wish I could wait.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know if I too get a WP or Android. May happen...may not. Still need to fiddle with wife's phone. Yes the WIFI sync is super solid and I was able to easily move all my contacts to her phone using the little ATT program to do it. Piece of cake. Nice ATT feature. Now my wife won't have to ask me for numbers....she refuses to input contacts lol

how exactly did you move it to itunes? Just locate it in the zune folder and add automatically? Good call...nice

I have always used Itunes for my Music Management and I just imported the song in Itunes from my Zune folder (Zune like IOS will import from your phone wirelessly and effortlessly). 4H LTE is becoming more and more accesible and like I told my wife whether it be IOS, Android, or WP7.5 it's a matter of your preferences and what you like and what you want out of your device. Good luk my man.

Doug the rest of the story are the rebates which will reimburse the full purchase price of the phone. Plus you can trade it in. This is unheard of and keeping me glued. Btw I'm typing right now with the phone. The keyboard is nice but the space at is too close to the smiley button. Lets try some ;) :):D:p:-]<:[:S:/:|:(;-):):-D:p:-]<3:-S:-/:':)-(=)=D=P=]=[=/=(

Just an update...I went ahead and bought myself a Lumia 900 but ATT won't let people take them out of the store until they've all been updated. I also joined a forum and have read some REALLY cool stuff about the tips/tricks of Mobile W7 and things it can do. I can't wait to relay some of my experience. My wife went from an old school candy bar phone and now realizes what a tool it can be....and what a tool her husband is.

thanks,

Some tips:

  • Highlighting text in internet explorer and hitting the search button will search Bing with your highlighted text.
  • While listening to any kind of music, changing the volume brings up the expanded volume bar with the currently playing audio. Tap the title and it will take you into whatever app is playing the music.
  • Pressing the back button gets rid of the volume bar quickly.
  • There is an app called Stop The Music! That will remove any music that may be listed on he volume bar so that it goes back to its small size.
  • If you set the phone to upload photos to skydrive. There is a way to mount a drive right to skydrive on your desktop. Pictures sent right to my computer so nice.
  • in settings, you can allow your phone to upload your photos directly to skydrive.
  • you can tag people in photos when you upload it to facebook
  • holding back button allows for multitasking
  • holding start button lets you use voice
  • holding camera button when your phone is locked opens up the camera
  • when typing, double tapping space bar adds a period, adds a space, and capitalises the next letter.
  • tapping and holding on keys on the keyboard allows you to add less-used symbols/letters
  • you can "close" toast notifications (the ones that pop up on a tab at the top of the screen) by sliding it to the right
  • when you have 41 or more apps, the letter navigation pops up (just like in people hub)
  • you can share onenote documents with people (using skydrive), and it will sync to everyones phone/skydrive, makes it super easy to send notes around to a group!
  • onenote is a good alternative to a todo app, it allows you to have checkbox lists, add images or voice notes, and syncs it to skydrive automatically for you
  • you can have full sms conversations, using just your voice. go to settings->speech and turn on audio confirmations. if you get a text, the phone will tell you that you got a text, who you got it from, and you can say "read it" and it will read the text for you, after that's done, you can say "reply" and send a text back, without even touching the phone. it works like this
  • Tap and hold is the hidden delighter of windows phone. Try it on a bunch of different places in the UI to discover additional functionality.
  • Holding the search key while on the lock screen will jump straight to bing without having to unlock.
  • Pressing back with the soft keyboard open will close the keyboard.
  • You can show info for what's currently playing in the music+video app on your lock screen. Turn the setting on under lock+wallpaper.
  • You can swipe away the notifications
  • If your phone is connected to the PC and the Zune is open, then you can do 'reverse tethering' - use your PC's internet connection from your phone.
  • If you click the search button then hit the "Eyeball" icon you can take a picture of printed text and either copy it to your clipboard, or translate it into another language. I have used it with a very high success rate. Blew me away when I discovered it a few weeks ago.
  • Here's one that is not obvious. You can filter in local scout! Click on the small green text under eat+drink, see+do etc.
  • When a song is playing in the Zune app you can tap the artists name and go to their albums list.
  • If your playing music in shuffle mode and add a song to now playing through a tap and hold, it will be the next song to play. Same thing for an album
  • On the now playing screen in Zune you can tap below the song playing and it will list upcoming songs.
  • If you pin an artist to the home screen, you get the double tile.
  • You can tap and hold on the number key on the bottom left and then slide your finger all over the numbers and just let go. Basically you never have to toggle the numbers key. Most just think you can only do that on a few keyboard buttons like punctuation.
  • Continue hitting the back button will clear all your background running Apps. If you want to close a specific App running in the background, Hold the back button, select the app in the card view and then hit the back button.
  • If you stop playing music on the Lumia 900, the music on the volume bar will disappear after a short period of time. Unlike with older WP phones where it stayed until phone reset
  • In the address book view, if a person has multiple iterations of their info from Live, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Linkedin, etc. You can combine them all by using the 'Link' icon from within their profile view. WP actually gives you suggestions on the names from your address book. This way, there is only one iteration of their contact which combines all the different profiles of that person.
  • Within the address book, you can create groups and add add people within those groups. I have Family, Close Friends and Co-Workers. I can view all their social activity at one place. I can also pin these group/s as a home screen tile.
  • Flipping the phone to landscape view while using the calculator will give more functions.
  • Press and hold alphabet keys to bring up accent characters.
  • In Zune player, if you hold down the next track button and it will start to fast forward...same with rewind just hold down the previous track button
  • Nokia Specific but ##634# will install the diagnostics app on your Lumia Phone. There are lots of goodies in there. I wish I could pin the Battery App to the Home Screen.
  • After a few seconds, all the connections and battery life on the top of the screen disappear. Tapping the same area will pop them all back up.
  • "pin to start" from within internet explorer snaps a screenshot for the start screen tile. Zoom into a nice looking part of the page (ie:wpcentral logo at top of page) before "pin to start" for a better looking start screen tile.
  • To make a checkbox "to-do" list style note in OneNote - Highlight what you want to have check boxes and push the check box button at the bottom.
  • You can have Internet access on your phone when you are connected to Zune via USB. One simple way to limit your data charges.
