lol. Good question--it's got a little story. Don't get your hopes up, it's not really a good story.

Last weekend our homecoming was in Omaha at a school who most often has 80's rock themes every year. This year their theme song was Don't Stop Believing. Steve and I said 'ack'. Heath and Charles helped us out as roadies, and Heath commented that he ALWAYS plays Journey. There was much ribbing all night as we NEVER play Journey at events (keep in mind we're totally different demographics for events, so it was all in good fun). We'd tell Heath that just because you play it or someone requests it doesn't mean it's good, etc. So now it's a little ongoing joke. Yes, the song went over well at this high school; their old themes always do. Couple years ago their theme was 'For Those About to Rock'. That one took some creative editing to make a playable version (not content, just interest).

Well, apparently Journey isn't so "ACK" huh? :sqwink::sqbiggrin:

And your right, Val, we do totally different events. But I will honestly say that Don't Stop Believin' gets requested at just about every gig I do, and even when not requested and I play it, the song normally really fires up the crowd!

I think Arnel is an amazing vocalist and does very well. Yes, there will only be one Steve Perry and its hard to imagine anyone else filling his shoes and doing it well but Arnell certainly does the job. I too wil be looking forward to a Steve Perry cd in 2010!

And BTW...if you are not playing DSB at 99.9% of all your events, then you really need to go back to DJ 101.

I would disagree with that one 110%. We do pretty much all schools. It's not necessary where we go. But then, we're kinda bottom feeders at $4000+ average per show....

It's a great tune for Heath's shows....good drinkin and singin along tune.

Alright, let me see if I got this straight (I'm philosophizing -- I do that on Saturday evenings only -- free of charge, on ODJT radio network) :sqlaugh:

Steve's out at a local bar, Val's at home taking care of the horseys. She's pissed, because he likes Journey, and is probably line dancing with some other chick.

Am I getting warm here...?

It doesn't really matter -- wanna know why? Of course you don't, but knowing me -- you have little choice :sqcool: :sqlaugh:

Ya see, I just got Chinese food delivered, and am buzzed. I am listening to Journey right now, just because of this thread. But, I am about to go up to the party room, and listen to (and watch) The Boss and the E Street Band, Live in NY in 2001.

I know none of this makes any sense, to anybody but me and Val (she may be confused too) :sqlaugh:

BTW, we need more duck sauce... :)

roflmao

that's exactly it, Rick.

Look me up after yer first divorce Hon... :sqlaugh:

I'll be the strange, toothless old dude -- hanging out back in the Wooley Swamp with Bigfoot, counting coins from the mason jars... :sqcool:

Really?? Hardly tell. Wow. I think there's a huge difference. I can take the test and tell you exactly.

Read what I wrote again.... I was pretty clear... overall the vocals are very close except for range... Perry obviously hits higher notes...

Arnel is a very bad fit. He sounds nothing like Steve Perry nor does he have a fraction of the power in his voice like Perry. Bottom line - Arnel is way out of his league.
I still say Steve Augeri sounded very similar to Perry. All the way was a typical Journey song. It was their comeback song, but for some reason Augeri left the group leaving Journey at the place they were before. Too bad.

What?!?? Maybe I have wax in my ears or maybe they need checked... but, Augeri was NO WHERE near Steve Perry... I would pay big bucks to see the band as is today over seeing them with Augeri....

Now, I will write this, of all of the post SP singers journey has had. Steve Augeri did sound the most like him.

But you are right Arnel is out of his league.

Hmmm... well that's two votes to one... I'll take my ear plugs out and ignor the fact I can't stand the guy and give him another listen... but, I'll tell ya when I first heard him I dismissed him imediately and knew he wouldn't last.

I've been listening/watching them -- and the Augeri guy is doing nothing for me... :sqconfused:

No stage presence, and sorta boring vocals.

The Arnel dude sounds much closer to Perry IMHO, but even that aside, he has a much better stage presence than Augeri, and a high energy level like Perry did.

I'll go back to watching The Boss now -- he still sounds like the Boss, and acts like The Boss :sqcool:

Now I remeber why I didn't like him...

1st off and this is just a superficial reason... He looks gay (sorry fuzzy)... really... could he look any more gay?

2nd his voice isn't nearly as smooth as Perry or Arnel... almost has a raspiness to his voice.

I will have to say Arnel does sound much more Like Perry and does hit the higher notes better.

I thought to myself if that Arnel guy said "Come on!" one more time, I would turn it off. He did it again just shy of the 2 min mark and I turned it off. He tries too hard. He's a decent vocalist but Steve Perry he ain't.

This sounds more like the real Journey than the current Journey with impersonators doing the vocals.
