I think some people are confusing Arnel (asian) with Augeri. I have listen to both. Arnel can sing but has no power whatsoever and he sound nothing like Steve Perry. When myself and a coworker here Augeri sing "All The Way" on the radio, we couldn't believe it was not Perry. Arnel should stick to his youtube gig.
 
For those that forgot, even though SP is the voice most recognized with the 80s hits, he was also just a hired gun by Neal and Co. Journey is Neal's band, he started it after he left Santana, they had a singer before SP, the guy who sang Black Magic Woman. Also let's not forgot , its Steve Perry who doesnt want to do Journey anymore. I think there have been a lot of offers for him to come back, I mean Neal would b crazy not to offer it him. So even though SP is the most recognized, it is in fact Neals band and as long as he is still around, it will be Journey.They are known as much as for SPs voice as they are for Neals great guitar riffs.
Look at Guns and Roses, yeah they still have the voice of Axel, but without the dynamic playing of Slash, they suck.

For the SP fans, go wait for the solo album. Gotta admit that after Foolish Heart and Oh Sherry even SP hasnt really been SP anymore.
 
Say what you want. I love and respect Neil Shawn but...

Would Led Zeppelin be LZ without Plant? No
Would the Stones be the Stones without Mick? No
Would Air Supply be AS without that little guy singing? No

I could go on but I think you get the point.

One other thing that I'm not sure's been mentioned, the real reason everyone loves Steve the best. You can tell that... Steve Perry 'means it' when he sings / Arnel is focusing on hitting the notes and trying to sound like Perry / Augeri is show-boating and sings without any soul.

We all agree that Steve was the best. How come Steve has gotten over leaving Journey but the fanboys havent? Cmon give it up, he doesnt want to be with Journey anymore. If youre a real Journey fan, you'll keep supporting the band regardless.
Everyone agrees whose the best, no doubt.

Band who changed singers?
ACDC- yeah he died but I dont see anyone crying about the replacement.
Van Halen - Van Hagar sold more albums then Diamond Dave
Black Sabbath - pretty good run with Dio
Genesis- did pretty well after the drummer of all people filled in

just to name a few

I dont think Arnel is trying to sound like Perry, thats his natural voice. I think he's more concerned about his diction and pronuciation. being from an asian country, some words were pronounced in a different way so thats what hes conscious about.
 
I could put in disclaimers about a bunch of things, but I'll just stick with still rocks - *AS IN* their stuff from BACK IN THE DAY - still rocks!

Being a musician and a snob myself, I take all kinds of things into consideration, and the musicianship and production value of their stuff was always a large part of why I liked their stuff, so I'll squeak them by on those grounds.

Neal considered Hugo and gave him a call. when he auditioned, Hugo freaked out everyone since he looked so much like SP, but yeah, he is good.
 
Valerie...what kind of schoold do you do? At my homecoming dance a couple of Fridays ago I got 3 requests for DSB...hard to believe things are that much different in S Dakota...

Well, let's see...homecomings this year were 3x Illinois, 1 Wisconsin and 1 Nebraska. Sizes ranged from 1700-2200+. 2 were new schools for us; 3 were repeat customers. 5 have inquired about next years dates.

Even back in the day when we did smaller systems and smaller schools, I don't recall ever having a Journey request (and we did up to 30 proms per year then).

Now I'm not saying it's stupid to play or stupid to request; we've just never had it and never play it. Our dance format is different than that. We go 0 to 60....stay there for 3 hours and go home. Journey doesn't fit the energetic style of music that WE play. It works for us.

Didn't mean to put you on the defensive...you're coming across like that but we all know that much is lost in texting/posting/emails.

Glad it's working for you...I usually end up playing the mashup "Journey with Jean" and it works perfectly for a "0-60" format...I'm sure you know as well as I do that "high energy" doesn't always mean high BPM's...
