It's already selling like hotcakes in pre-release, and is simple to use, light on resources, and I haven't managed to break it yet.



To me, Vista is a dream come true though -- you can tweak anything you want, and make it as fast as you want. It's the best geek OS that has passed before my keyboard to date :) I've never had Vista crash.


Win7 is faster off the launch pad, and somewhat more user friendly -- but the interface has been dumbed down for the masses. It's still Vista, but it's more work for tweakers like me, who like to get the most out of it...

You have to wait -- but you get it for half price :)

You can get the RC1 right now -- it's free. Just download, build an ISO disc, and install it. It's 99% -- the only major differences (to my knowledge), will be hardware support, and some minor fine tuning of the interface. You'll eventually have to pay for it, but you can get up to speed now, and get a fairly seamless transition when the final release happens.

Release Candidate 1 -- it is the last version prior to full release to the general public.

Anybody can get a copy, but it will stop working after a certain date, unless you purchase the release version, and activate it. I don't recall what their end date was, but I believe it is still available for download on MS's website.
 
OK for an update in this issue. I think the Music file on the Hard Drive was screwed up or something with the Hard Drive. I did a reformat on the hard drive and used synctoy to add the music back on it and it is working better than it used to, actually works like it is brand new.
Go figure.
 
I'll wait - even if it is the crapista mark II

untill the retail version is out then I may install it on a few machines
but till then nope nada wont look yet...

I installed both Windows 7 32 & 64 bit versions and is very frisky.

On a Quad Core, this is really nice. VDJ also runs and even my DAC-2 works.

Yuppers - I will be purchasing Windows 7 when it is officially released.

I believe that offer is done now though...


Once 7 officially releases, we will also cease testing on XP. Granted, some people run my software on Win 98, but anything earlier than Vista will no longer be officially supported. Too much of a hassle to constantly make workarounds for old technology...
 
DAC-2 only installs on 32bit.

I since reloaded the 32bit version

There are 64bit drivers but require a tad of 'hacking' the inf/ini to allow an install.

My goal is to make a Windows 7 version of my current gig rig and test the stuffings out of it.

All need to play nice w/o installing any virtual PC emulator XP mode stuff.
 
So far, all installed cept for smart ripper.

I still need to test w/ USB audio devices and ASIO4ALL.

Also, configuring to record from the tape out as well.

Even so, I am VERY impressed.

But in W7, you can still knock a USB WiFi off line by attaching a USB drive.
