The last 3 gigs I have done. 2 weddings and a 60th birthday party have involved excessive and I mean excessive alcohol consumption.

Now don't get me wrong I drink like a sailor (guess because I used to be one). But the last gig had 80 people and 15 - 30 packs of beer, 15 -20 bottles of hard liquor and beer run halfway through the night.

Most danced all night, the drunker they got the more X-rated it got. When grandma started grinding I had to look away.

No-one got into any fights which surprised me.

Just a lot of hurling chunks and trash talking later.

Normally I would think I would raise my prices to get to a more exclusive crowd, but I am the highest price DJ in the area.

$500 a night and usually get a $100 - $200 dollar tip at the end of the night. But people do get generous when their ripped.

Is this just something I am seeing around this area, or does anyone else have this issue?

Nature of the beast....:sqwink:

As long as there are no fights, my equipment or myself aren't in danger, it's all good.

By the way, I've seen so called upper crust people behave this way. It happens.....:sqwink:

From my experiences, the more "exclusive" the clients, the more alcohol related problems I have, its the less expensive events where they are really already streatching their money to hire me that the problems hardly ever occur at.

So far so good as far as the fear for equipment or self. Not real sure how I would react to that exactly. Do you still get paid if you break a guest or two?

It just seemed odd to me that the bride and groom get so trashed by the end of the night they end up puking on each other.

If said problem isn't rectified within 15 minutes, we pack up and go home with full pay (it's in our contract). We've only had to threaten to do this twice in the last 5 years.

Hey, if you can't puke on your spouse...who can you puke on?:sqwink:

Dealing with drunks is usually fairly easy since they're pretty easy to confuse.....:sqrolleyes:

Biggest obstacle is to keep your cool and talk to them in a calm and even tone, yet remain very firm in what you say.

I was wondering what was taking the bridal party so long when I found out the farther of the bride was passed out in a bed of a pickup truck. Good times!

The last wedding the drunken father of the bride cut in on their first dance. The groom had to get a little hostile with him to get him to get off the floor and let them finish their dance together. Almost didn't get to the wedding cake, garter toss, or bouquet. Total chaos. I tried to help maintain some order and structure for a while but in the end I just hung loose and went with the flow. Got through the night and had a couple cocktails when I got home.

To be honest, I miss those shows.

Did a lot of 'em back home... backyard parties that went on all dang night. VFW dances where the people got schnockered up and danced all night long.

I could play just about anything and they'd dance to it. There'd be one song that I'd play just about every half hour or so, lol. They kept requesting it. And they'd dance to it every time. :D

I loved it... the women would be all over me, all handsy and so forth. A woman would have to be drunked up to wanna be close to me anyhow. But I took me licks. ;)

The stuff I don't miss, when people get hateful drunk. When they get like that I want to load up and get out of there. :(

It's so different from the old days.

No one wants to be the designated driver. Everyone wants to be the designated drinker. Clients don't encourage a lot of drinking at parties anymore because of the risk that somebody will get in a crash.

Open bars are becoming extinct around here. It's very expensive to offer an open bar and many B&Gs aren't seeing the budget for them.

I started DJing before the "keg laws" became popular. You didn't have Majors Burns and Hoolihan as neighbors, calling the cops. Neighbors came over and partied and everybody had a good time. There was all kinds of food and drink and BYOB. :)

Teenagers ralphed in the yard and the dogs came along to clean it up. People passed out under their cars, in pickup beds or wrapped around a tree. If it rained they were still out there, dancing on the muddy lawn. As long as the music kept playing, they were happy. The Bluegrass band loaded out at 9:00 and I was still spinning at 2:00 in the morning. :D

Ah yeah... those were the days. :)
