Ok, let me preface in saying that I'm not an expert when it comes to using Freestyler. I have just recently started using it and finding that it's a pretty slick program.

On another thread where we were talking about Rain56's, some had asked about Freestyler. I have recieved my dongle (software to dmx interface) and would be willing to help anyone get a kickstart on using Freestyler.

I would be willing to turn on my live Ustream show and chat room so that we could all talk about the software.

The first show would be strictly focused on adding a Rain56 or parcan such as it. I would guide you thru getting it setup in Freestyler, adding the fixture into the 3D viewer, creating your own scenes, adding those scenes into the Cue area (which is used in your Live shows) and we'll look into the Sound2Light application that is used to have your lights dance to the music. And, anything else that pops into my head from now until show time.

I hope Rob can make it since he's been using the program longer than myself and anyone else that either uses or wants to know more about the program.

I'm willing to host a few shows to accommodate different schedules and I'm looking at doing one this weekend and another one sometime next week.

You'll be able to see everything via my webcam and ask questions via the chat room. I'll be putting a more solid game plan of the actual show together so hopefully it will flow in a way that everyone can understand and comprehend what we will talk about.

So, anyone interested?

But now I don't have those bats to play with. lol Just messin' with ya man. I'm about ready to jump on the Freestyler bandwagon myself. Just need to get the dongle. Someone on another site said they were going to make a few from the kit and offered to make me one also, but not unitl after the first of the year. In the meantime, I'm going to download the software into the old laptop I'll be using and playing around wth it.

Randy if you get SuperCam you can set the video source to the desktop and then you wouldn't have to point your webcam at the screen and you'd get much better video out of it.... if you're up later tonight say after 11pm I'll fire mine up and show you and we can see how well it will work. You may have to chat via a different computer while showing the desktop however.

I tried that, but it's limited in the amount of area it will show...or at least from what I can tell it is.

I've tried the webcam on my screen and it looks pretty good. I think I can make that work for everyone.

I'll be using a mic to talk with everyone and the second computer is already setup and ready to go. I'll probably ask my son to sit in with me to help relay chat talk/questions/discussions.

You might be able to use this http://camstudio.org/

But, I'm not sure how it would work if at all in conjuction with ustream. Toqer use to use it for video capture for his live shows and it worked pretty well for that.

You might be able to go widow instead of full screen so that you can shape freestyler into a 4:3 screen size instead of wide screen.

Thanks for the suggestions....but I think I'll go with what I have for now. If it doesn't work well for others, I'll look into other options. In my testing, it seemed to look good.

Btw, did you get the new version of Sound2Light....new & improved with 'auto-everything'. It does a very good job of 'listening' for the beats.

what version of Freestyler do you have? I haven't checked for updates since december 9th of this year.

Thanks I didn't know... I guess I should check for updates more often. I thought it was pretty good already except that I have to muck around with what frequency to react to.... the thresh hold and decay.... it already had AGC and bpm detection.

Now it has ATC (Auto Threshold Control) and ABC (Auto Beat decay Control), which both seem to work very well in my 4 hour testing run this afternoon.

This old dog would be interested in learning a few new tricks... :)

Keep us posted.

Being stupid here. A dongle is required for freestyler? (fingers crossed as I HATE dongles)

BTW, I got the velleman vm116 today. Hoping I didn't just waste $100.

I use that same dongle in Freestyler for 4 lighting rigs, works like a charm.

The Enttec Pro works with FreeStyler right? I am gonna pick that one up as it seems the most versatile. And you can't beat the $136 price on ebay.

Yes it will work with Freestyler.... as for being more versatile... not sure what makes it so but, at $136 vs $79 for the Velleman it's a no brainer for me.... they do the same thing as far as I know so it was price that sold me.
