Hiding Tripod Legs.

I was talking to a Designer today and I brought up the subject of Exposed Speaker Tripod legs. My stance on hiding the legs with those Scrim kings covers is that I personally think they are ugly, even the lighted ones. Maybe its is because every time I see a photo of them they are always within a short distance of each other. To me that makes them more conspicuous. Add that to a DJ Booth in the middle and it becomes very high profile.
My Designer friend commented that she has seen that at Weddings and she too thinks that they are overwhelming. Her suggestion was to create a wrap around vine type foliage with small flowers around the legs and up the pole, to the bottom of the speaker. This would hide the Industrial/Mechanical look of the Tripod legs and pole. I think it would be a great idea for pole mounted speakers on subs.

I would lean in that direction as well. Personally, I would choose loose drape-like skirts or bare tripod legs before I used a scrim.

I dislike the looks of scrims, especially luminated ones (which makes them even more gaudy/overwhelming) But that's my 02.
 
My 02 is who the heck wants to look at bare tripod stands and good luck with the vines.Skrims are so much more professional looking than nothing at all.Just sayin!
 
good topic. I'm not a fan of the SCRIM either..... bare stands seem to be less visible. Now, as far as folliage and flowers on the stands.....MEHHHHH. I on occasion will use a black or white drape ....(depending on the backround color) on the bottom legs to hide cords....(depending on the backround color). I just assess each site/event seperately.
 
I find that someone using Lighted Scrims is someone who is in need of attention. Why bring attention to something you want to hide?

I prefer the bare stands.
 
I am neutral on this. If clients ask for them and yes I have had them ask I provide them otherwise I typically dont promote the idea.
 
I find that most people that don't use Skrims,don't know a thing about djing.

One, they are spelled scrims, two, please explain your statement.

We all complain about the DJ who wants to get attention so we migrate from interactive DJs to becoming WEDs. But then, try to cover up lose cables with lighted products bring attention back to us.

AS for scrims, no I dont use them
I have in the past used black table cloths that I would wrap only around the base

That is lol, funny!

I too think they look terrible. Absolutely hate the look. It draws attention to the stands, not away from them. I feel the same way about light-up facades at weddings. School dances are another thing, but weddings? No way. It screams 'Look at me! Look at me!'

I wonder why DJs think their stands are ugly, but not their speakers? Why not scrim-cover them too? They are just as ugly as your stands.

I'd much rather keep it simple and understated like this. YMMV.

I'm with Wes. Lights and scrims draw attention rather than deflect it. There's nothing wrong with them, but don't fool yourself.

Does a band camouflage themselves? How about that big camera walking around the room or the remote flash stands? I have never heard of anyone complaining about such things until I joined a DJ forum. Today's modern gear is pretty damn slick and stealth. Dressing up your rig isn't hiding it. Whether or not one way is better than other is simply a matter of opinion.

Heres a clever way to cover them if your gonna light up the facade you may as well light up the speakers full boat! :eek::eek::eek:

Why are you wearing your speakers like Headphones and where are the subs? If there are subs and if they are hidden under the table then............nahhhhh I won't say it! ;)
