Can anyone answer a few questions for me please. Can old martin mx1 and mx4 be linked together, Bad idea or just look different? Also will martin showtime controller for mx 4 units work with mx1 or is this trouble too? Martin is funny that way, Showtime Controller units look identical and have very little info on interchange ability. Thank for the help so I dont screw things up. cowboy :sqerr:

Don't know about the controller, but as long as both units run DMX (I know the MX4 does, I am not sure about the MX1) then there should be no problem.

MX-1 Manual specifies that yes, it's DMX.

MX-4 Manual specifies that yest, It's DMX.

The MX1 can do 1, 6, or 7 channels, the MX4 can do that also.
They appear to be about the same except the lamp type.
They appear to have the same DMX wiring standards.
They can both be linked as master slave to the same models, but you'd have to try it to see if they can control a different one.

If you are running them DMX the whole master slave thing does not matter. DMX is DMX. So yes, if you are running them DMX you can link them together.

One thing to remember -

MX-1s were a 250 halogen

MX4s are a discharge lamp & will probably overpower the 1s...

The controller (Showtime, right?) has 2 versions - one is for the 1s, the other for the 4s.

yea, that makes sense...

I was thinking control one with the controller, then have the other slave off it, but I guess you could just set them all to the same channels if that's the case.

However, if he wanted to run them standalone....if they won't master/slave, then he could have the 2 pairs setup and have 2 independent shows running, that might or might not look good together.

I believe the Showtime controller is model specific; not sure the preprogrammed patterns will work or work correctly with a mix of lights. If using a straight up DMX controller, you could run any and all with no issues. The issue comes in when you're using preprogrammed control such as the Showtime.

one last question

Thanks for the answers, One more question, Since the martin preprogramed showtime controllers look to be made seperate for each mx model, Would using the showtime mx4 contoller damage the mx1 fixtures somehow or just not function correctly ? Should I not even try it with fear of damage? Thanks again for the help. cowboy
