I guess my first inclination is for a larger workhorse full-range speaker (15/2 or 15/3 comes to mind). The 802s are intriguing given the current version is fairly weather proof should I need outdoor stuff. The downside would be a need to have a sub even for small/mid gigs.
I don't know what you mean by small but I have used the Bose 802s by themselves with their controller and NO SUBS in full range a few times and they sounded just fine. The last time was in a restaurant's function room with a low ceiling and they sounded just fine. I don't know if the new version would allow this so check on that. If the controller has an FR (Full Range) setting then it will work without the sub if needed.

I had the opportunity to work with a set of the jbl p r x 615's and the matching sub p r x 618. I was truly impressed by the performance, they were very lite and the boxes look great especially with the full face grill. The wedding had 175 guest and athe setup sounds great. They had built in crown amps, they ran warm most of the night. but keep in mind we were pounding them and they kept up nicely.
The 2 tops and 1 sub will fit nicely in a small suv. Lite enough for 1 person to work with and the boxes are very nice looking.

Crown and JBL are part of the Harman Family, so too are Lexicon, Infinity and AKG. This is why JBL Powered speakers sound so good! Two winning names!

Well, last night I finally had the chance of listening to the Bose system (2 L1's and 4 B1's) it was a relatively small wedding (Compared to the 2 previous ones) with about 140 guests. Let me tell you I was surprised while they may not have the thump or rumble of 15" and 18" subs, the sound was very good and full and we had a long fun night getting home at @4:00 AM and heading out to vote at 8:00 AM. While the Bose may not be for everybody it does have some excellent qualities and they can get the job done.

I always said the system sounded great but I needed a bit more thump for versatility otherwise I was considering life as a Bose O.
