Has Your MacBook Pro Been Recalled?

I have no issue with Apple .. their users want a trouble free experience and they probably get it far more than casual Windows users.

You’ve been fortunate. A lot of Mac users have complained about their computers locking up in the middle of an update. Macs are not immune from problems.

They have? I have been using and working on Macs for nearly 10 years... The church, where I work during the day, has 17 macs in inventory and I have never heard of a single one locking up during an update.

So your're implying that we're both problem free and I'm spending half as much?

Not really. I have been nearly problem free for 10 years, when I switched to Mac (had one heat related issue). You have been problem free since Windows 10.

I am not aMac fan-boy, just telling it as it is for me.

Apple has a few recalls, as most companies do. They are all listed here.

Four computers recalled in the last 11 years. That's pretty good odds. They may be more expensive but no one can deny that the reliability is second to none. For me and my business, I will pay a premium for that.

I used to use PC's but after a blue screen in the middle of a gig, I said "I'm done". Yes, I always have proper backups.

Since moving to Mac, I had ONE problem in nearly 11 years. It was an outside event, in direct sunlight. The machine became VERY slow. Never locked up and never shut down. I immediately new what the problem was and redirected my fan and within 45 seconds, it completely recovered.

USE THE TOOL THAT WORKS FOR YOU. My experience is clear.

No, I really haven't had significant issues since the Vista days. Other than a hardware failure (a Dell laptop video issue 8 years ago) I haven't had an issue in almost 12 years.

I have no issues with Macs .. just waayy overpriced for the components.

Mine has also never locked up in the middle of an update. I have had the system freeze a handful of times but I have not had any major issues. Most family that has migrated - their system problems are all but gone.

I see Windows problems daily. Most of them are driver issues. Anything from driver stopped working - to driver not realizing hardware is present. Most Windows problems (imo) could be resolved by making their normal user account, an account that does not have Admin rights. No user (and by extension, hacker) should have access to the entire system all the time. I've also seen alot of Windows 10 corruption - during Windows Updates.

The point of the thread WAS NOT whether Windows PC's are better than Macs or vice versa, it was just to warn owners of the recalled Macs if they were not already aware. I couldn't care any less about who uses what operating system. I'm currently experimenting with Mixxx on Linux (Zorin) laptop...

... and I gotta say, I'm kinda diggin' it! I'm using my old American Audio VMS 4.1 and an old Acer Laptop that I loaded Zorin on. When I tried it previously (a couple of months ago or so), it wasn't playing smoothly, but I loaded the newest version of Mixxx last night and played music for an hour or so with no pauses or skips. That's encouraging, as I'm aware this PC falls short of the minimum requirements. So this morning I hooked up the VMS 4.1, which is one of the supported controllers, and it works like a charm. Setup was SO simple... much easier than Traktor. I've always LOVED this controller, but had no use for it when I switched to the Denon MC6000MK2's. Now, perhaps I have the foundation of a completely open source DJ system.:djsmug:

You're right, we should be talking about how ANY laptop is better than those NUCs out there .. :)

IMHO, the one last piece Mixxx needs is color coding in the Library Browser. Serato has it, Cross DJ has it, Traktor now has it, and I'm sure there are others. Once you've used it, it's hard to go backwards, especially if (like me) you do not confine yourself to a Playlist when you DJ.

There is a work-around where you substitute different solid colors for the "Album Art" in the "Album Cover" Column, but it is slow and cumbersome - some DJ's did the exact same thing with the old Traktor Pro 2.

However, I have the exact same Alto mixer AND mouse pad as Bobcat - easy to see how Great Minds think alike!!

I worked on a client's Mac recently. I've always taken care of the nuts and bolts of her website and remote computer work for her. When she was on Windows at least every month she had trouble. She bought a Mac in 2016. Last month was the first time I worked on the Mac after helping her migrate files and install the initial set of programs. She wanted help with the upgrade to Mojave and setting up cloud backups among a few other things. Now I don't consider myself a Mac expert by any means but seeing as how I can always drop into terminal and issue commands like I would a server I was confident I'd be able to take care of it.

One thing that blew me away was using Team Viewer was fine until I did the upgrade. After the upgrade I could only view the desktop but not interact with it. Turns out there's a specific security exemption that needs to be setup in the control panel for any app that allows remote control. That's pretty cool. I love that Apple generally puts security first.

My next computer if I can ever save up enough and not *need* to buy one to replace a failed one will be a Mac.

NUC’s are not for everyone. Ya gotta be pretty SPECIAL to use them.[emoji4]

Guess I’m gonna have to give up on the Acer Laptop... again. Even though it runs better with Mixxx 2 than with the previous version, it still has annoying blips when loading a track on one deck as the other plays, and it does the same thing when it’s analyzing a track while one is playing. It’s better, but not good enough to use for a real event.

The concept is good though. I successfully configured Mixx 2 to use my American Audio VMS 4.1, and it worked great. I actually like it quite well. So what’s the next step???... I have another laptop could try, It’s running Windows 10 at the moment, but I could just pull the disk drive out a put a new one in, and load Linux on it. Or... I could use my old rack-mounted DJ PC, which already has Linux on it. I could put a Nano computer in my controller case and use a monitor with it. I’m not too crazy about a laptop computer anyway because of the small screen size. I’m not gonna BUY a laptop computer for this specific purpose, so I’ll have to use something I already have... like the Dell Optiplex 3030 AIO computer I bought as a potential Podium System computer, but ruled out. There’s options.[emoji4]

And if you visit the wrong site or sites, you'll regret that decision. :) Heck, even the 'right' sites can cause problems. All they need is a way in - and Admin is that way in on a Windows box.

Every single user that I know that has switched to a Mac has had this exact same experience. Continuous problems with Windows. Minimal / no problems with Mac.

I love that Apple generally puts security first.
The OS was built from the ground up with security in mind first - and then the user.

Why you visit those in a sandbox mode

Sandbox mode is a virtual PC. This is not new, by any stretch of the imagination - and people have found ways to both attack and infect virtual machines with viruses that can 'break out' of the VM / Sandbox. Additionally, this is Windows - I guarantee you the hackers are already hard at work on exploiting this.

My favorite versions of Windows were 3.11, 98SE, 7 and 10 (seems ok so far). It seems every other version of Windows is 'good'.

In all my years using Windows, and having owned dozens of computers, I’ve never had even one virus on any of my home computers. Had plenty on computers I supported at work, but never at home. I’ve always had good anti-virus software, and practiced safe browsing, and knew enough not to click on links in random email messages.[emoji1] I have no interest in porn sites and I’m also pretty careful about what I install on my computers and where it comes from. I do have Linux VM’s I use if I ever wanna browse a risky site. I have EVERYTHING backed up to servers running iXsystems NAS software, and they are very secure. I’m actually not a big fan of Windows, but Macs don’t impress me all that much either. I use whatever works best for what I want to do.[emoji4]
