I bought a new Gigaport HD soundcard to replace a Gigaport AG card. I did not install the software it came with. I just let Windows XP find and install it.

However, I am getting very little volume out of it. And yes, the main volume setting on the laptop is at the highest level.

I see in the HD's installation sheet that the provided software has separate volume controls for both channels. I thought I could get by without installing the Gigaport HD's software.

What am I doing wrong here? I used the AG model for years with no problems by letting XP install it. But the HD model seems to want more. Why am I getting so little volume out of the HD model?

Your thoughts? And is the AG card still available for purchase?

What do you have against using the Gigaport's ASIO drivers? They load fast, they are unobtrusive, the output quality is superior to XP drivers, and allows for 4 separate channels of software stereo channel assignments.

Forgive my head scratching here, but it seems that without utilizing the proper driver set meant to be used with the GigaPort product is like griping about the ride of a Mercedes that you didn't put the rear tires on.

I have a hardly used backup AG I'll trade you for your HD even-steven!

Cap, I've heard horror stories & experienced them myself wrt using the drivers with Gigaport AG. Dunlopj's fear may be as a result of the horror stories, I can't say for sure.

WRT my Gigaport HD, my OS is Windows XP Pro, SP3. I installed the Gigaport HD right out of the box and had no issues at all. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. -Z-

Steve : Most of those horror stories were from folks who didn't read the instructions. When the updated drivers say XP SP1a or higher and the attempt is made on a XP or XP SP1 machine, chances are poop is about to happen.

My biggest issue early on was not plugging the usb cable into the same usb port every time (and the GigaPort really really really likes its own direct unshared usb port NOT off a hub {powered or unpowered matters not}. It kept asking to reinstall drivers until I figured it out. Same direct unshared port every time. From that point forward, never an issue.

I'm with you on the part of having to spend valuable time and efforts experimenting with and troubleshooting every software/hardware product, searching for and locating their own little weird and hidden nuances and quirks. That's why most software and hardware products and items are referred to as "she".
