Played it through Media Player, same problem. Also muted the mic, same problem. When I pause the music the crackle stops, then will come back when it starts again.

Have you tried unplugging the lappy, and running off the battery?

The new laptop is not working correctly with audio and I'm returning it. I'm looking to purchase one of these:

I'm not sure which to choose. The one is 64 bit Vista but has a lot better processor and memory. Is Vista 64 that much worse? What effects will I see from it with DJing? Compatability? Why do people say to stay away from Vista 64?

There are a few older programs that won't run on it -- but that is not the fault of the OS (just lazy programmers who use code designed for DOS/Win 95).
All I can say, is it flies like an eagle, and I have yet to crash it -- and I can be pretty mean to an OS
I built Rockit 4.2 on V64, and I would never go back to XP at this point in time -- too slow, and it crashes too much.
Can't say for sure how VDJ handles V64 -- you might want to check their forums on that...

My only issue is that the Gigaport HD drivers only work on 32. However, I was thinking about using ASIO4ALL which supports 64. Would this work? Would the computer recognize the card's outputs and let me use them?

If it were me, I'd go with number 2, even though it has a smaller screen.
It has double the L2 cache, 4 GB RAM, and most importantly, an eSata port!

That is what I was thinking of choosing. Same price, a lot better specs, only it has Vista 64.

Can't help ya on the ASIO stuff Stew -- do a search, I think Cap and somebody were having a discussion recently here on those drivers, regarding VDJ.
