Well, I have been following posts on this issue (bigger van; vehicle vs. trailer, etc...) for a while. Been doing research, waiting for a good deal to come along, and it seems my patience paid off. Unexpectedly came across a deal this weekend just too good to pass up. Bought a 5 x 8 trailer this weekend and plan to take my time over the next month or two to outfit it the way I want to start hauling my gear. I have included some pics of it below, the price was a steal (only $1250) especially for the condition. All the lights work; tires are in good shape, lots of tread, and it pulls great.

I was thinking it was 4' wide too. The rear door looks like its on solid sheet of ply which are usually 4' wide. Clean trailer! Great price!

Those trailersare usually used to transport Motorcycles. A DJ friend of mine has one and he made a partition at the end (where it curves) so that the remaining area was a complete rectangle. In the curved end he would put tripods, lighting stands, Mic stands etc. He also reinforced the plywood ramp/door with ribbed aluminum. Those ramp doors can become slippery when wet. I think you made a good purchase.

Any thoughts on how you're going to pimp it out?

I have a few plans drawn up; but, will probably not start in earnest until after the holidays. For the flooring and rear door I am planning on putting down some corrugated rubber matting. Something similar to this: http://www.floormatcompany.com/fine-rib-48-inch-wide-corrugated-rubber-matting-p-31.aspx. The 2 E-Tracks current on the floor will be pulled up and mounted on the side walls (probably about 2 feet from the floor. I will get another set of these and mount about 2 feet above the ones moved from the floor. I will get 2 shorter E tracks to mount on the sides forming the nose. Like Canute mentioned, one side of the nose is where I plan to vertically stack my speaker stands and lighting stand. On the other side of the nose I was wanting to rig a few shelves to hold my hard cases with my mixer, mics, etc... These are just a few thoughts, but like I said have not ruled anything in or out. Most will not get done until January, but hope to have it fully outfitted by the end of that month. I have a brother in law who owns a sign shop in town, and am gonna see what kind of pricing he will send my way for signs for the sides and probably back. I will post some more pics as work is being done and the completed product if I remember.

Get a wrap put on it.....advertising for starters. I reenforced the side wall and put hangers for cord, light trees, mic stands, etc and installed tiedowns to bungee or strap down gear inside. Nice get..... you'll love it. Mine has been a god send!riptide-entertainment-5.jpg

That's a nice find. My trailer has a domed front, so I framed the shelving and squared it off. That way, I can keep the weight of my speakers and my custom light gear box loaded directly over the tires.

You may want to test run the rubber matting. If you have anything on wheels, they probably won't roll very nicely .... especially after some wear-n-tear. And, if the EZ track is too expensive, you can mount tie-down points directly to the framing. I've added those to mine and along with the ratchet straps, the gear doesn't move.

Randy that is way too clean of a trailer. You better call Santa Ben and fix that situation. :p

Hey Ron, if you park that trailer at your home every night then, put what ever you want on the side for signs. But if you park it over night out in the public, you will need to be very careful as not to advertise that you have expensive toys in that thing. Back when I was in the concert lighting, we never had any logo or anything that would let someone know what we had in the trucks. After one sound company we traveled with lost truck and all one night from the hotel we were staying in, from that point on, no markings on the trucks and we would back them up rear door to rear door and chain the trucks together.

Just be careful.

It will be in my backyard 95% of the time when not traveled to a gig. Behind a chained fence. I have a home alarm upgrade scheduled for Wednesday and plan to convince the technician to put a door switch on it. The system is wireless and I already have a sensor on my shed further away then the trailer will be parked, so that should alert me if someone jimmies the door open. I have a few gigs scheduled out of town for over-nighters and those nights it will stay attached to the truck and hopefully fund a spot backed up to the hotel dumpster or something. Thanks for the tip though.

For reasons stated above, my trailer is not marked. There's already enough problems with people breaking into normal (unwrapped) vehicles. I don't need any more attention than what I already get. Will it help with advertising - possibly - no guarantee's.

One can use Magnetic signage that can be removed when and if necessary.
