Almost all DJ websites tell you how many songs the person carries.

Mine doesn't!

They also almost all use gigmaster or another booking search.

I am ideologically opposed to those silly things, party because I think they detract away from the hands-on and personal contact aspects of our relationship with the client that I try to foster. Plus they look generic and tacky.

They almost all have something about professional audio and lighting equipment.

True dat.

and most of them use some feat tactic to get people to book (your DJ might not show type thing)

DARN.... they're ONTO me!

If STG is doing something different then that might be the reason for his high bookings of cold calls.

EXACTLY! What I am doing different is to weed out EVERY QUESTION someone would call to ask a dj and replace those "Do you____?" and "How much would ____?" calls with calls by people saying "Wow, I saw your site and I would really like to see if we could talk about my wedding." They are practically asking ME to setup a consult. Thats what I mean.

I give them ALL the answers, ALL the prices, everything on the site.

It seems to work for me - I get compliments on the detailed nature of my site, of the transparency of the posted prices online (the psychological impact of that one on the consumer CANNOT be overestimated!) etc.

My "pitch" is summarized as follows:

"I'm not going to try to bait you for a sales pitch on the phone- I am going to give you all of the information you could possibly want or need regarding what to look for in a dj and what I offer, and I will give you all of the information you need to make an informed decision on my services BEFORE you even call me."

Folks appreciate that approach and it tears down a lot of walls and defenses because they already have a good idea what to expect not only when they talk to me, but at their event.

To each their own - I'm not going to say there's a right way or a wrong way - all I know is what works for me!:sqwink:

The above post is exactly what I meant when I said you are doing something different then that might be the reason for your high bookings of cold calls. I hadn't seen or noticed your site before tonight but it stands out for those reasons

I guess I *could* (some may say "SHOULD") be "getting more" for what I do, but perhaps I am just not as opportunistic as some. As my end-result offering to the client continues to increase across the board, so will my prices!

What you charge is really irrelevant as long as you and your clients are both happy

Just a thought here but whatever did we do before we had the internet...I mean we actually had to sell ourselves.....in person or over the phone.

This has been my problem with my website...its down now cause to be honest I just dont like them.....no personal attention and to me that just seems sad....We are working out the details to get it back up. But it will be a simple type site.....more percise and to the point. I still like doing business face to face....seems personal and thats what I like and how I want to be treated also. Just me I guess, but the voice inflection I can give to an intro done on the spot will do more for them that reading a website.

A website is just a tool man, that's it. It's not a replacement for meeting someone in person..

Since it is a tool, different folks have their own preferences. Some just want something to get their contact info in front of perspective clients - an online business card.

I personally prefer mine to be a sales tool that is useful for the consumer and provides them with valuable information about me, my services, and hiring a dj in general. It tells them how they can expect me to take care of and approach an event, and how I will go about personalizing it for them. Answers their questions and empowers them. People respect being given info.

In the end, no right or wrong way - we all know what works for us, or at the least are trying to find it:)
