You are avoiding answering the question, and I believe Mix uses Yamaha's with Yorkville subs, if I'm not mistaken. Definitely NOT the cheapest!:)
Mix has Yamaha DSR115 tops for the Yorkvilles .. he also has the dual 15 Yamahas. Because Mix knows to say no ... :)

You didn't ask me but........

Thump - the only person I know who had them had both speaker burn out within 2 years. They also sounded like crap
Harbinger - the only one I head (at guitar center) sounded like garbage
Gemini - haven't heard them. Assume they're crap
Alto - Have a few friends who own them and are very happy. Have used them on one gig, they were full-sounding and put out a lot of volume.
Using ITTigger's process of deduction; given those four options and $250 per speaker... I'd buy the RCF EVOX 8's... And that's what I intend to do... someday... if I ever need to buy another set of PA speakers.

If I had to consider some, I would most likely consider the Behringers - I know many that have used them and I have used Behry amps in the past without issue. Would they stay as my main pieces, absolutely not. In line with that, my Behry amp was used until I could afford a better one, which was a Crown. The Behry became the backup until that too was replaced by a Peavey GPS-3500.

Do you HONESTLY think your speakers are what you're selling as DJ services??? 99% of your clients and guests won't know the difference between RCF and any other speaker. Most only know when something sounds really bad. The sound of pretty much everything else is subjective. :djsmug:

I don't - but I do believe it plays into the 'perception'. People know JBL, EV, Pioneer, etc.

Early on, using the name "Bose" actually did help me sell DJ dates. It's the only name brand that has ever resonated with 20-something females. Other than that, they just give you a blank, "I don't care and shutup talking about guy stuff to me" look.

Having a $10k sound system I will be the first to say your sound system is NOT a selling point. But yes the perception factor is there especially since I use column style speakers.

To the original poster... find a budget you’re comfortable with and get the best you can in your budget. If your budget is not far off from the next level... take the leap and get something better. You never know what your future holds in terms of necessities.

If you want my opinion... try and find some leftover new qsc k12’s for cheap and 1 kwsub... otherwise get two good quality 15” tops that can handle the output that you need with no issues.

How many DJ's do you know using Pioneer PA speakers?[emoji1]... and EV???... Really?... EV is a pretty obscure brand to most people because it's unlikely they ever had an EV product. JBL... yep... people know it. But not ALL JBL speakers are good either[emoji1], and probably won't get you a price increase.

Bose and JBL have done a good job of developing an image. They don't have to be the best, because people have the preconception they are, and they don't sound BAD![emoji4]

I tend to buy on sound quality and then warranty I have Yamaha’s because of the 7 year warranty

...And that's something that someone should definitely consider when buying expensive PA speakers... It's painful to plop down another grand to replace a blown speaker... not quite so painful to plop down $250.[emoji4] It was something I considered when I bought my Alto's. Only a 1 year warranty. For me, I rationalized that I was only going to use them for a year, then use some of my profits from the first year to buy better speakers (at the time I had Yamaha's in mind). As it turned out, I never had to claim against the 1 year warranty, the speakers are still working GREAT, and it's a good thing, because I didn't make a profit my first year anyway.[emoji1]

Previously I and QSC HPR series that were bought when there were being closed out they had a 6 year warranty

Again, I never said it would get you a price increase. EV's been around for a long time. Pioneer just started making speakers, so not many probably have them - but if you have equipment with the name, people recognize it.

Used to be guys would build elaborate home stereo component systems, so they knew name like Pioneer, JVC, Denon, Onkyo, JBL, and others. Today, components are passé. It's computers and video games. Sony is certainly well known, but a lot of the audio systems manufacturer's products are not found as frequently in the home... Outta sight, outta mind.[emoji4]

There are still people that build home stereos. They may not have all the components we used to have, but they still build them and a bunch of brands are still around. Car stereos see alot of them too.

Tim, I hope you find some valuable info in all this. We all have varying opinions as you can see.
While I am new to this forum, I am not new to forums in general. Just from the limited amount of reading I have done here, i half expected this kind of response! lol I have actually gleaned some very useful information from this thread and I am very grateful for all of the well thought out responses and opinons. I think I have pretty much decided on a course of action. Now I just have to pull the funds from somewhere! :-/

Yeah. I am gonna have to find a guitar center or something near me so I can go put eyes on some of this stuff before I pull the trigger.

Right now at guitar center the alto ts212' are 250 a piece. Can't beat that! I have a pair and like them a lot. They are a good price point for you. Not that this is going to happen to you, but the dj industry is littered with people that think that they would like to dj, And " make a little money on the side, and it'll be fun". Don't go to the top of the price structure before you are sure that this is for you! Altos are a good entry price point for you.

Buy Altos. Best Bang for Buck Speaker Btand. They are also the lightest in class, and have a very nice look to them. Also, make sure you purchase speaker covers for them. IDJNOW.COM actually has good packages that come with the covers. Or you can get the covers pretty inexpensive on EBAY.

Alto TS212 speakers weigh 28.5 lbs. Get a Alto TS212S or TS215S Sub to go with them. You will be pleased with the sound. Keep the dial in the back at around 11 o clock for the speakers, and set the Sub to 0 DB or a little bit before 0. Here is a pic of a 50th Wedding Anniversary party I did just last night! :)

My most basic set up besides using my Alto TS110A speakers that I have.

Tim, Take note of this setup! Ricky has a great setup and from listening to him, he has a perfect business plan! He has probably made his money back on this setup multiple times! Something I wish I could say right now, but I have stopped spending money. Don't go too deep too fast expense wise! Buy used, but not abused! Let someone else take the hit on the music equipment!

Here is my ideal startup. If you want to go all new

Alto ts212 powered speakers
I have and still use the ev6 by Peavey mixer! Only 100 bucks and works great
adj 2 way crossover. Very inexpensive, works great. Still use it! I think it is 125 bucks
Numark mixtrak pro 3. 200 bucks works great, sounds good, Still use them!

Under 1000 bucks. And I bet you can't believe how good it will sound!
