Filename Question

The benefit to breaking up the books is it like having eight books out there instead of two and encourages interaction between the singers. If there was only two books one by Title and the other by Song then two people would hog those books and other potential singers would get disinterested. Printing 4 of each by Title and then by Artist can become expensive. Again, whatever works for you. ;)
 
I print 10 of each every year. I do all the printing and binding myself. Total cost is about $250 per year. Cost of doing business my friend.

There are times on this board that I prefer not too .. safer that way.
 
For ARTISTS, I usually remove the word "THE"...unless the band name cannot be used without it.
(ex: you can say Ringo was a Beatle. You cannot say someone was a "Fray")
For song titles, I usually keep them as written.
(A Hard Days Night)

But as Jon said, computer searching only requires one "key" word to get the same result.

I remove 'The' as a beginning word from all artists. It really is not needed and for those of you organizing, I doubt you're filing The Fray under 'T'. You might do Fray, The or something - and at that point, 'The' becomes useless IMO.

In 40 years, if members of 'The Fray' are as popular as 'The Beatles', you probably could say he / she was a 'Fray'.

I also agree with Jon, searching requires one (or minimal) key word(s) - and in light of that, I doubt you're doing an artist search using the word 'The' unless it's a name that has 'The' not as the first word, like 'Toad The Wet Sprocket'.

For song titles, I also keep them as written.

I guess it isn't so much for me internally, cuz as you all point out, it's pretty easy to find songs using search. It's more for the song book (or electronic kiosk I will be going to) that I was curious. Don't want the wannabes to be think my grammar "wasn't any no good".

I use PCDJ Song Book Maker (also have Airwer Song List Creator). The PCDJ one (made by Pilot Software) uses the actual file names, so the way I set the titles, dictates how it prints. The Airwer software uses the disc information and reads the titles from its database, but I have found too many missing discs to trust it. Plus .. it too had some files one way and others the opposite.

So I will leave it the way it is I think (The and A at the End for both artist and title) for now.

I have it .. works great. Don't have the Song List generator (2 is already too many).
 
Good ideas.
Buy some software and let the computer decided how to name the files.
I'm pretty sure I have not followed the exact same method for all of my files.
One day I may think a "THE" is needed...the next day I don't.
 
Is this what happens when one is OCD? :trirolleyes:
