Just sell the damn thing and stop trying to re-design. There are speakers made for DJs then there are speakers made for serious SR. You could always make a drape to put over it! :tribiggrin:

My contract stipulates that cover MUST be used for both me and my equipment. If the client has a problem with that, then they simply have to find another DJ for their event. I simply will not risk damaging nearly $ 8000 worth of gear because some client doesn't like a tent.
Wow, If someone hires you for an outdoor gig, they must provide a tent or shade for you?...that's pretty impressive.
What happens if you get there & find otherwise?

FWIW, my ZXa1s have been issue-free with the exception that I have one where the 8" speaker rattles sometimes at certain frequencies. I have not had any thermal shutdown issues with mine and I've used them any number of times in the heat and direct sunlight. The ELX-112p is the only thing I've had issues with.
It could be done I suppose. My concern: would doing so affect the cabinet's performance and overall tone?
I think that the primary issue would be warranty, but of course then, we would have opportunity to post threads on "fan causing noises in my EVZAX1's" and have as much fun as we are having here.
The primary problem is heat, a correctly designed electrical shutdown event designed to protect the speaker from catching on fire, which would not be good at said ceremonies. As Bill indicates, some ceremonies, it may not be possible to prevent direct exposure.
Since Bill doesn't want to sell them, my simple solution based on reading his postings this thread is to avoid the ZXA1, and use a mackie, which is heat sinked to prevent such occurrences. Use the EV inside where it is cool.
There should then be no further issue with heat shutdown.

That's what I plan on doing, using them mainly for cocktail music in a foyer, small inside events, Etc. Mackies will be used for ceremonies for now. They have never failed me. If I had to do it over I would've never bought the ZXA1s...it would've been the QSC K-8s. (reselling the ZXA1s may not be easy) My next speaker purchase will probably be the K-8s & the K-subs. I just can't understand why EV designed them this way. A big mistake.
Yes, it's too hot here for outdoor day gigs June thru late Sept.
Just make sure you have another speaker ready, because it's gonna happen when you least expect it.
Like I said, I have the K12's. When I went looking for subs, I looked at the K Sub. I also asked all around for something that would suit me better. Alas, I have the 118P subs that compliment my K12's very well (and sound better than the K Sub IMO). The K Sub is (2) 12" drivers. The 118P is (1) 18" driver rated @ 700W.

It adds up quickly. I treat all of my outdoor events the same. Cover over my head and my equipment. Doesn't matter if t is a 1 hour ceremony, or a 5 hour performance at a fair or pool party.
I carry a 10 by 10 EZ Up tent with me, which I charge an additional $ 75 per event when utilized. The majority of outdoor event clients usually rent a large tent for their dance areas . But when they don't, the EZ Up serves me well, plus a few extra bucks for me.
Bottom line----no cover from the elements--- no Steve Cie!
