Can you rent one from a production company or even Purdue's drama department?

Its a thought, but normally with the cost of renting from them you're better off looking into buying the item yourself. :sqerr: :sqeek:

Lemme see, where can I fit that 55 gallon drum in what's left out of my 4X6 trailer? hmmmmmmm :sqlaugh:

A 30 gallon drum will work just as well, just a lower volume!:sqwink:

You can get them in smaller sizes as well 10 gallon @ $80, 20 gallon @ $88, 30 gallon at $110 and 55 gallon @ $94! These are all open head prices, but you can find used drums for $10 to $20 you just have to be careful about what was in them before!

Of course you can go the "professional" route...........:sqwink:

If you use TRADITIONAL fog - even low lying - there is a long list of people to talk with.... and only one on that list is at the venue.

Remember, there are a LOT of different types of fog machines....

Some are oil based, some water, some sublimation or something similar....

And all of them have pros and cons... weigh them all carefully before making your choice - they're all the right tool for the right job - they're just not a 'one size fits all' type of device...

I made my low lying fog machine using a large igloo cooler on wheels, I fabbed up a stainless steel lowering cage, I put a stainless steel stand off on the bottom(if the dry ice touches the plastic bottom it may crack it), I am using a modified livestock heater on a temp controller, 2- 6" high volume whisper quiet industrial fans, and 4" plastic flex duct that feeds into a dispersing head(it looks like a real wide vacuum head) to spread the fog evenly.

The heater and fans are switched indepentantly.

I pay $5 a pound for the ice. 2 lbs will do a great job for about 5 minutes. Long enough for the first dance.

I opted for the cooler because it helps dampen the boiling sound of the ice.

I spent around $150, but unless you have a mig welder and good knowledge of electrical circuits I wouldn't try it.
