Do you think RCF will make a version of the evox with a bigger sub

I have the evox 8 but I would really like it with a 15 or 18 in sub, they could build with an 18 with wheels on the back of the sub, you could just stow the top in the sub tip the whole thing on its back and roll it out of the venue.

I guess it depends on the success of the 8 (5 doesn't seem to be going anywhere). The benefits of compactness and lightweight kind of go away if they move to a 15 or 18" sub and a larger top. Current package is less than 50# .. I would suspect a 15" would come in at 70# and a 18" at 85# .. not as convenient, though still maybe smaller/lighter than the options.

No reason you can't pair the EVOX 8 with a single killer sub.

true I guess I never thought about that, what crossover points do you think would work, I have a pair of QSC hpr 181's and EV ETX18sp's

Probably need an external crossover or DriveRack unless the subs have a controllable HPF .. I might crossover around 80Hz .. maybe 90 to start. 90 is typical from a sub to a 15" top ... The EVOX 8 probably behaves in that range.

That would keep the impact feeling 60-80Hz range in the bigger sub.

Pairing an Evox with another sub is like pairing a QSC K12 with another sub BUT, leaving the QSC top on the floor and mounting its high-driver on a speaker stand.

IMO, the Evox is meant as a stand-alone solution. If you're gonna pair them with another sub, you should somehow raise whole Evox solution in the air or on a stage. If not, the 12" portion of the Evox will be somewhat negated by your dancefloor patrons.

The best of these compact systems are Dynacord but unfortunately they stopped selling them in North America They have a model with a 15" powered sub and satellites that are powered from the sub, and if you wanted to scale bigger the sub will also run a non powered version of itself.

Why do have to raise the whole thing, when you don't raise it any other time. That doesn't make sense. You are not making the Evox sub do anything other than not handle 80Hz and below. It's still doing the rest of its job the same way it always does. Although I would probably but the Evox sub on top of the bigger sub.
When you're running your Evox at full-range, it's also covering sub duty so you WANT it on the floor. It SHOULD be on the floor for the bass notes to sound their best from floor coupling.

If you're high-passing it at the typical 100Hz, you're essentially wanting the Evox's 12" driver to handle mid-range kick and vocals on up. This requires it being somewhat near ear level for best sound, not floor level. Don't believe me? ... At your next gig, put your tops on the dance floor, along with your subs and report back on how it sounded throughout the room.

You putting your Evox's on top of an external sub is at least better than simply leaving them on the floor.

My tops are the Evox 8's so if I put them on the floor than I would have all frequencies at that level. Not just the frequencies 220 and below. The Evox sub only handles 220 and below. I played music through them and also did some mic work with only the subs on and there is barely any vocal that comes through the, it is not like your typical 2 way setup where the 12" is handling 2500hz and below. Where the 12" is handling most of the vocal range.

I agree with Stevie .. Given that the EVOX sub already handles the 90-200Hz range .. removing the frequencies below that (off to another sub) .. doesn't change anything about how it works currently. Yes .. ideally .. if the EVOX sub ONLY needed to handle frequencies above 90Hz, it might be beneficial to raise the driver, but it will work exactly as it does now with a paired sub. If that was what one did all the time, then a different system would probably be a better choice, but for the occasional super-sub assistance, it will work fine.

Can't wait to see that larger version! (What would that be called? Evox12? I think that is what I see on the display riser.) Something to hold out for, and hopefully has an even larger SPL. (Evox8 is 128Db)

Yep that's the EVOX 12...but sadly has lost the unique feature of the top array sliding into the sub...but then that would make it too heavy anyway.

I'm happy with my 8...I don't need the 12.

Okay, I think I stand corrected then. For the "occasional" I need a little more bass situation, an external sub with the Evox may be feasible. I'd venture to say that a traditional top / sub combo would sound better though. That little Evox array handling 220Hz + can't be better than a traditional 12" top box (both running at ear level).

Unless that's a lightweight sub, the form factor just doesn't appeal to me. You can do the same thing with any sub and a slim top.

The beauty of the EVOX 8 is its form factor and performance vs size/weight ... start getting larger and then you have plenty of other options with tops (8", 10", dual 6"/8") and the benefits are diluted. Not that an EVOX 12/15 wouldn't sound great .. it's just an RCF HD10A over a RCF 705AS sub (insert your fave pair here) would also sound as good and be more versatile.
