I see so many people's sites that list like 10 things that they specialize in.... well, no... that isn't specializing.

I know that Brian Martin specializes in Oldies dances.

I guess that I could say I specialize in Children's Entertainment, but it really isn't what I want to be doing all the time.
 
No. It would make absolutely no sense.

As a guest - do you specialize in attending only one kind of event? When was the last time you declined an invitation because you felt you can't enjoy yourself at a party outside your specialty?

Every event is a unique mix of people from every conceivable mold. If I were to specialize in one kind of party - then I would just be moldy.

What makes a great DJ is the ability to connect with the entire range of people on hand while simultaneously getting them to connect with each other - on the dance floor. Doing the same type of event over and over robs you of the experience you need to really accomplish that.

I totally agree that you could get moldy.... but I don't agree that there can be a mix from every conceiveable mold.... Take, for instance, a VFW dance, an Elks dance..... highly unlikely that you will get many young people at all.... Teen dances are another area, by and large.... not real likely you will get requests for Elvis or Bill Haley....

If it was profitable enough I would specialize in 70's and 80's parties... and touch upon the 50's, 60's, and 90's for a few songs per event.
 
Our specialty is offering our Photography and DJ services for a variety of events. Mostly weddings, though.
 
Papa I meant tongue in cheek that I can work with any fun music. I dont limit my knowledge of one type over another and I enjoy the research required to pretty much accomplish success and enjoy every event no matter what music required. I dont think I could pull off an event such as a down mood funeral or an all opera event as I havent faced such an event. I hope this narrows my broad statement explaining the No Limit philosophy. I did an event which included alot of songs from musicals which was a stretch beings I hate musicals. Interestingly enough it was a great experience and I pulled it off successfully.

How big is a Mega Op event wise and how many DJs?

For one client I specialize in school events from 1st thru 8th grade.

For Brides I specialize in their event.

For all others I am just good at it.

For any client that rebooks me for their Holiday event they must feel I specialize in their employees enjoyment.
 
For me, 99% of my events are wedding ceremonies & receptions (weddings)

I know there are some DJs that do all their wedding receptions in the same fashion as other gigs (just show up & play a variety of music)

But, to do it properly, there are far more details involved.
