I had a prospective MOB tell me that I was a person that she least likely expected to be a DJ. She said that I seemed to laid back and straight laced. She don't know me vewy well, do she?

I have also been told by the folks in my high school class that I am the last person they would think of to "turn DJ".

The statement from the prospective MOB was the first I have that from a client or prospective client.

So, do you give off DJ vibes?

I'm really waiting for Cesar's reply to this one. :sqlaugh:

Well, aside from the fact that my initals are A.M.P. and my dad is a DJ....

I talk about music a lot. People know I love music and I'm often talking about it. Sometimes, I'll even come up with songs for different things that are going on, whether it's in work or life. So, aside from the fact that most people know that I'm a DJ, those who don't aren't usually surprised when I tell them. The thing that usually gets people is the fact that I started my own business and am booking 2-3 events per month after only being officially open for a year. :)

DJ vibes? The only thing I can imagine is...

1. You improvise "beat-boxing" performances of popular songs everywhere you go
2. ...Yell "DJ "(urnamehere) in the HIZOUSE!" every time you enter a room
3. ...Make random record scratching noises turntable motions with your hands when you are bored.
4. ...Name the year and peak chart position of every song that comes on the radio
5. ...And you get suicidal when you hear "Celebration"

Personally I can talk til there is no tomorrow. I was given the gift of gab, which I am 100% happy to have. I have always been able to deal with odd situations and make the best of them. But heres what is funny.....

In high school, we would read in front of the class, I would not.......
I would always wear my hat..to school, to class, between classes.....
Personal Hygeine was not the greatest between 9-11th grade....
I hung out with the less desired "losers"........

So some people find it funny how much I have changed since school. I am happy I have changed, but its amazing how much great things have happened since 10 years ago. Now dont get me wrong, I have "ALWAYS" gotten along with everyone, and I still do. But yea.....now of course, I get the "Adam, thats amazing how great you are doing with your business, keep it up!"

So yea, thats my last 10 years in a nutshell!

Interesting thread.....

What does the general public think when you tell them you are a mobile DJ?

Positive thoughts:
Fun, outgoing, obviously party person, music lover, organized, articulate, fearless, leader, has rhythm, likes to dance, enjoys electronics, has equipment, can setup a PA, etc...

Negative thoughts:
Gold chain wearing cheezeball, sleazy, no class, cant dance, wannabe musician, slutty, chain smoker, can't hold a real job, unorganized, unreliable, drunk, etc...

What do you guys think? I am very sensitive to any negative thoughts, and try my best at each opportunity that presents itself to remove any doubts with clientele. I do have fun, party down, but do it in an organized, classy, and responsible manner. Any other thoughts?

thanks,
Jeff

What does the general public think when you tell them you are a mobile DJ?

Many, if not most, people, including my friends, think that I'm just too stupid to get a real job--I think that I'm too smart, but that's a story for another day.

But most people are not my clients, so I don't even go out of my way to tell people that I'm a DJ anymore, and I feel much better.

Remember there is a reason why one is born with two ears and one mouth!

Nah, everybody thinks I'm either an eccentric mad scientist, Ted Nugent, or a redneck hippie :)

Two outta three ain't bad... ;)

When folks ask what I do for a living, I tell them "I watch water flow downhill, and play frisbee with Faith."

Totally blows their minds  :sqlaugh:

I was actually talked INTO becoming a DJ. Many figured that my personality was just right for it, and I have a somewhat memorable voice...I'm glad they did!

To make sure what I am saying is true! Oh....lol....so I can listen to others! I got it!

Ok...gift of gab, and listening....check...I got both of them!

When you are alone in a room, all by yourself, do you also talk to the smartest person in the room? :sqlaugh:

No I talk to a smarta$$! I hate that guy! I always go into the other room when this happens!

He follows you, doesn't he?

Just remember, you are not crazy of you talk to yourself only when you answer yourself back.

Right?

Right!

See, I told you I knew what we were talking about.

I get called everything from an eccentric to a comedian to a clown to a newsreader that plays music too.

Most people say I am immediately like-able and amusing - so I reckon I give off a good DJ vibe - even though I don't really do it now.

I should but the dosh just isn't there and I can't be bothered to go multi alone - money isn't a problem just can't do it alone again

Some people think I'm a prick too but that's all part of the game innit?
