I do believe there is some truth in the ability of true psychics, but I also believe the pool is diluted by charlatans. There is probably more to "the other side" than most people can comprehend, and I think that the pool of charlatans that prey on the less savvy are far more prevalent.

I will not say I believe, because I cannot grasp the concept of how it works, or how definite their visions can be, or how definite the course of their visions are...BUT, I have been in the presence of true psychics, with my skeptic meter on full blast, and have been amazed at some of the things I have heard.

As to any dialog about God or the Devil, that is personal belief...everyone has to process what is given to them and decide how they personally feel about it. I am not left handed, but I believe in left handed people.

So yes, I would say, psychic ability does exist.

Yes! I had a reading done about 13 years ago. 4-5 predictions came true! I wasn't her !! )pointing above!
 
I voted Unsure.... but real quick story.

When I was 16 I was in a high school club called VICA ... Vocational Industrial Club of America.... I was working at a restaurant one night and they had a psychic there.

She grapped my hand as I walked by. She said " I see the colors Red, White, and Black in your life. And they play an important part in your life"....

VICA's "colors" were red, white and black.... and the next week I was supposed to be in Pittsburgh to run for State Office of that club..... freaked me OUT!

The book of Revelation has been said to be happening "today" by many a minister over the generations. Nostramadus' predictions are much the same.

Some people are more sensitive to human emotion than others. Little things... body language, eye movement, what you say and how it's said... all of these may be picked up by someone who is sensitive to 'em.

It's called the art of listening... and watching. :)

Yup, I'm skeptical. You gotta show me. Where were all these so-called psychics on 9/10?

I do believe there are people that are [sychic at least to a certian extent. I would go as far as to say everyone is psychic just some can harness the power better than others

I dont believe these true psychics sell it for $3.99/Min on late night TV

That is one way. Another is to ignore the incorrect predictions and remind people of only the correct ones.

Red, black and white?

How about a white Camaro with a red interior? The black is the asphalt? A holiday spot where the motif is mostly white with red and black appointments? The problem is that our brains are primarily pattern matching machines. That’s the reason people see Jesus’ picture in toast and water stains. Doesn’t that cloud look like a ...?

James Randy (the illusionist and skeptic) pulled a great stunt. While teaching at a local university he prepared personal horoscopes for every student. Each horoscope was received in a sealed addressed to each student. The class was asked to review their horoscope for accuracy. Almost 85% of the class felt the horoscope they received was very accurate. Randy then asked everyone to hand their horoscope to the person behind them. There were a lot of giggles. Everyone received the same horoscope.

I can read on any particular day 6 horoscopes that will relate to me some way or the other!


One time I called a Psychic....and I wasnt even 18 yet...and they read my "whatever you call it".....and would say things like....

1) you have an overweight sister right.....
2) a loved one has passed lately.....
3) someone in your family is "struggling......

At first I was impressed, but now....I think that was "awful!" This questions can relate to most people!

And for example if #1 question is a no....the psychic will say....wait....its a brother or dad....or something like that! They let you tell the story!

I believe people can be psychic on different things....but I have not yet met a psychic that has "totally" read my mind! They just know how to hit "common ground" with most people!

For example a pyshic could say something like....

Something in your business life is about to change...........

WELL DUH!! Anything different is change!

AHHHH! I'm done talking about psychics! Oh BTW....since I was under 18...they didnt get a penny...since they "legally" couldnt get into a "binding agreement" with a minor!

I bet they didnt "see" that one coming!

Verdi said the law, on the books for more than 30 years, makes fortunetelling "for gain or lucre" a third-degree misdemeanor.

Police alerted his department to the law a few days ago, Verdi said. "I was surprised," he said.

He said inspectors have closed 16 shops since Tuesday and he expected them to close more.

I've had premonitions about things.

Like yesterday.....before a client meeting I had a gut feeling that the groom would ask about lighting options. I printed out two different versions of the proposed Service Agreement, one with "Intels" and one without lites.

Sure enough, at the meeting....the groom-to-be asked about lighting. I was prepared with the alternate contract.

Psychic? Not really......just a gut feeling I had.

At the end of the meeting, after they gave me the retainer check & signed contract, I found out the groom is a Bar Manager.....

You're correct -- Soma (generic name Carisoprodol), a muscle relaxant, is also mentioned in "Brave New World," but I'm currently taking it for pain associated with a rotator cuff injury in my right shoulder. Yes, it is legal, and yes, it's a sedative, but no, it doesn't induce any hallucinations. In fact, it just gives me a buzz that feels like I've had two or three beers on an empty stomach! :sqcool:

Hmmm... Maybe THAT'S why my doctor prescribed it! My shoulder will still hurt, but I won't care about it! :sqlaugh:

Horoscopes carry all the weight of a fortune cookie message ~ and that ain't much. If not for the popularity of readership, they wouldn't be wasting space in the local fish wrappers.

Newspaper horoscopes have become benign over the years. The "predictions" of fire and flood and other misfortune of old have given way to positive, neutral "predictions".

It is a form of entertainment. :)

Bryan, there was no intent to intimate any recreational use for the compound you were prescribed. The only link is the name. The reference I make was to a fictional drug rather than a real one, just as a point of interest and yes I did read the link you provided (thanks for the reference). Huxley may have gotten the name from the Hindus who prepare a drink of the same name (and some of the fictional properties) for ceremonies. As usual, the drug companies came last and stole the idea from others.

And if you don't mind anymore - I'm glad, however it gets your mind off the pain.
 
OK, a real answer: I do believe in psychic phenomena, but have yet to meet a true psychic, not a face or body reader. Explaination:


I have always been a reader, and as a kid, read WAY above my age level. When I was about 13 my father came over to me while I was sitting outside catching some sun. He said " Do you know what book I'd like you to read?" I said " James A. Michener's The Source". He looked at me like I had three heads and got pale. That WAS the book he had in mind.


At a family gathering the phone rang. I blurted out that it was my brother George calling to tell us his wife was pregnant ( They'd been married for years- there was no indication that this would happen). That was who it was and why.

I've had similar experiences throughout my life. Also, my hunches are way above the 50% level for being correct. Do I believe I'm a psychic? Nope. It all happens when it happens. I can't predict ESP cards, or anything else on purpose. I have yet to find anyone who can. But I DO know the precognition CAN happen through personal experience. So: Psychic phenomena yes, psychics no.......
 
My wife will have premonitions about winning door prizes at corporate gatherings.

Its rather amusing, because she nearly always wins when she says she is going to win.

But there are times where none of the prizes are appealing to her, and she won't make a prediction.

At her last Xmas gathering, I couldn't make it because of my busy December calendar.....so Allie got to go in my place. She had spotted a "Starbuck's Package" (2 $30 Thermos's and 2- $20 Travel Mugs...retail value $100)....and said to Allie "I'm gonna win this".

And sure enough.......SHE DID!!!
