I'm trackin. Sorry for the delay. I understand thus far. I also understand the 'cheating'.

As I see it, if you have (4) four channel fixtures of the same type on a controller that has 16 channels per 'fixture button', you could:

1: Address them all the same - say 001. In this case, all 4 would respond the same exact way to commands on channels 1-4.
2: Address them 001, 005, 009 and 013. In this case, all 4 would respond differently on 001: 001-004, 005: 005-008, 009: 009-012 and 013: 013-016
Sounds to me like you've GOT IT!

Well... that's certainly a possibility. So folks... I'm waiting for questions. And, I'd love to hear someone say: "I got it!"

I get the addressing, though I didn't know about the cheating. Kinda cool. What happens if you have an 8 channel fixture and a controller that has fixture buttons with 4 channels assigned per button?

For PAR's, on my specific controller (http://www.elationlighting.com/pdffiles/dmx-operator-pro.pdf), it says to set them to DMX 129. Is there a specific reason or is that where they decided that all 'similar type lights' go? FWIW, my board is also one of those '16 channels per fixture' deals but only up to DMX136 for some reason.

easy stand alone software that comes with the sushi - 'trigger' lets you set a key on the keyboard - say 'd' for dance scene and you hit 'd' and bingo, whatever your dance scene is it runs.
I have a sound active, a fast, a slow..d, m and s. (dance main slow).
b for blackout.
I managed to figure out the fade to black..on the blackout scene click the box on teh right, 'fade' and pick say, 3 seconds (double clikc on the right box on the time)

With DMX, there are some things that everyone can use. I use the scene buttons on my Obey 40 to set all lights to one of 8 colors .. all at once. That has a nice effect when they're all in sync. I have 2 of the Sushi DMX dongles (same as ADJ DMX buddy) .. I'd like to find a nice easy app that would let me make some more 1 touch operations .. like all sound active .. or all slow fade to off .. etc.

I think I have the programming part down .. just have little experience with the software apps.

I've been playing with daslight as of late - not exactly the easiest thing to use, especially when it crashes - or adds fixtures that don't exist and you can't remove.

It would be great if the DMX programs could recognize a fixture, just like when I plug something new into my PC, "new hardware found installing drivers", it might make thing a lot easier
