DJ Software

I use Serato Scratch Live. Not Serato DJ or itch. To me the Serato SL boxes brings out a really great sound out of my digital files. I enjoy using the equipment that I had prior to going digital. Such as my 1200's and Pioneer decks. This was one of my main reasons for becoming a SSL user. I'm not happy that Serato renamed itch with the same name. I guess it was done for marketing with the controllers. I love SSL for the stability, features and sound.

OtsAV here been using it for years.(Before I joined this forum)

There biggest weakness is not updating the controllers they are compatible with. In my case Numark DJ2Go

One of the problems, is the developer has to buy every controller on the market, in order to map and support them. So, you pick a few popular ones and map them. Then you give the customer the MIDI Learn, so they can map their controller to the software.

Takes a little work on the customer end.

Yes, we do. Who do you think writes all the skins and mappers for VDJ? It's the bedroom DJ users.

They have two customer support reps last I heard -- one on the left coast, and one on the right coast. They are located in France, so they don't give a hoot. They let their customers do their support for them.

I cannot do that -- I actually pick up the phone myself, and walk the customer through the process if needed.

If 79 bucks is too much, but 300 for VDJ is too much -- make your own choice...


Think of it this way -- if you go to Home Depot and buy a hammer. Do you expect them so send somebody home with you to hammer your nails? No, it ain't happening, unless you have boatloads of money hidden under your mattress

OtsAV for it's stability primarily, and ease of use secondarily.

As for midi learn, I do wish Ots had it. I've tried to create a MIDI learn capability to map controllers with Ots, but found it nearly impossible with all the various possibilities for each control. Midi controllers are not as standardized as one would think. One will use a channel to separate decks, while the next device wont. The jog\shuttles are definately not consistent across even the same manufacturer.
