I know a number of DJs who do not bring any lights... I know one DJ who has to Vertigos and he puts them on top of his speakers and turns them on when he starts and turns them off when he done with dancing....
MJ It takes a professional guy to admit that
I used to do that with those crystal looking lights you could get at radio shack that had the candle type bulb, little cylinder in it and then a crystal outer shell on each of my two Realistic Speakers.. hey fred you know what i mean dont ya
Indeed I do, my friend. My first "lighting" purchase came from Spencers... what does that tell ya?
Seriously, the first lighting effect I ever purchased was a 12" mirror ball and pinspot from Spencers. I rigged it up on a cheapo tripod stand with a jerry-rigged drive motor. It worked.
Before I went upscale at Spencers I had a homemade reflective cylinder that I'd mounted on parts cobbled from a BSR turntable to make it rotate. I put a 60 watt floodlamp on the stand to aim at it, lol.
It's the darndest thing... but that half-assed rig made a good impression on prospects. Years later, long after the jerrybuilt stuff was gone, I got a call from a client back home who wanted us to DJ her wedding. She specified that she wanted "that reflective lighting effect" we had at the old VFW parties.
I bought an ADJ Sunray just for that show.
I've still got a pair of the old Realistic Mach 3 cabinets I loaded in the old days. They're somewhere out on the prairie. Shirl's son got the rest of the RS rig when we upgraded.
