His mom returned my call.

He was on probation for a previous offense. This has revoked that probation and he is serving a thirty day sentence for that plus whatever he'll get out of this latest DUI. The wedding is on September 22nd. I did the math; he ain't gonna be able to do it.

His mom also told me that the answering machine was full of messages from his clients and she asked me if I could help. The dilema gets deeper.

Well, I told her that I'd be by this evening to see what I could do. I'd really hate to see his clients go without a DJ. I'm thinking of them, not him.

Fortunately he's a good record keeper.

She is going to see him at around three and will let him know what is happening.

Now I have to let my sister-in-law know but it will be with a list of other qualified DJs.

One side of me just wants to walk away, but, the Chritian side says don't. I'm listening to the Christian side on this one.

very possibly so....but not for us or Tom to determine....he is no longer affiliated with this guy.
If it was me, i wouldn't even call my relatives and let them know unless it was close. They should find out themselves whatever the outcome is....if they wanted my help, they would have asked for it. I might mention something when i saw them that they might want to check in with the guy, but calling them and telling them about everything you heard kind of sounds like you are calling them to say, "See? I told you so!"

Oh I agree with avoiding the "see I told you so" phone call. And I was just speaking of the reality of the situation...his current dilemma could force him out of business.

You're doing the right thing.

You're doing the right thing.

I hope.

I've know Joe for about 15 years now. When he and I first met he was doing computer consulting. He was actually they guy that gave me the confidence to actually get into the hardware end of computers. Thanks to him I can build a computer from parts, diagnose problems, and various other things. I have since gotten a certification for this but he showed me that it really wasn;t rocket science.

Then he wasn't on the sauce.

Well, over the fifteen years I've known him, I lost track of him for about two years back in 99. Then he popped up in 2001 just as I got the DJ business going again. Another friend reintroduced me to him as a DJ. It was the three of us that actually formed Good Knight Entertainment.

He had changed and his personality had gotten a lot darker.

The interesting thing about all this is, I got rid of both of them for the same reasons.

:jfactor1:Go figure...

helping his clients out of a jam is a very nice thing......you are a better man than me.....seems like a huge can of worms.

We often talk about taking the high road in certain circumstances. Well the high road is staying out of it. I know that its going to be hard to do this, cause I'm sure your like the rest of us Tom, you want the good of the family to come first. Yet the professional side kicks in, knowing what the guy has been like in the past and knowing full well you could and would most likely do a better job.

I also think you should go....BUT leave the equipement at home. For some reason the mother wants this guy. If he blows it he blows it. If he does blow it and someone asks if you could help just politely say...sorry it's my night off you need to talk to momma over there. Im here to relax and drink free beer...did I just say that?:sqwink:

Don:

He's already blown it. He's in jail and will be there for at least thirty days, maybe more. The wedding is on the 22nd and, doinfg the math, he probably won't be out till the 24th or 25th.

I've already made the decision to help them find another DJ. I'll talk to my sister-in-law about this tonight.

Went back and read the posts again, I somehow missed the post with the date..my bad. Tom do what you must to help but man Im glad its not me

You were INVITED as a GUEST and beloved family member- a CIVILIAN. Your job is to go and help your nephew anjoy his big day through the joy of your COMPANY, not your work.

If you wish to carry your equipment in case, terrific. If he's a screw up, and the B&G ASK for help, you're prepared. But no more offers. Also, if you DO end up saving the day. no "I told you so"s. Now go have fun...

Joe:

Read the rest of the thread. He's already screwed up big time.

I met with his mom this evening. I listened to the messages and went over his records. I can cover most of his events. Now I need to call the clients and clue them in. I am not going to say that he is in jail. He's collected retainers from them all and his mom indicated that she'll cover me on that.

His mom told him that I was interested in helping and, considering the way we parted when I split with him, he was floored. He has some phone privilege tomorrow and will call me.

I broke the news to my sister-in-law. She called the bride's mom and she was not happy to say the least. The good side of this is that one of my partners offered to cover it for free.

1) My oops. too quick on the trigger, for sure. However, most of the advice stands.

2) That IS the good side. They can have a quality wedding, yet you can keep out of the politics, sit back, and ENJOY!

I spoke to Joe earlier today. He said we parted in a bad way and he was surprised I was doing this. I told him that we had been friends for 15 years and that counted for something; he'd been there for me several times when I needed him.

He vowed he'd stay off the sauce. He's kind of in a forced treatment program in jail now.

Anyway, I just finished catching up with his clients. I basically told them that something has come up that has made him unavailable and that we are covering his events for him. Some of them I knew and they already knew his situation and I didn't have to get into it.

In regard to the person he had the accident with, get this, they were drunk too so it may not have been all his fault. This was their fourth DUI and they too were driving on a revoked license with no insurance. I can't wait to see how this one falls out in court.

His brother pulled his vehicle out of impound. The damage really wasn't that bad which makes me wonder about the injuries of the other driver.

I'll keep folks posted.

It's great that your attitude towards him have changed. I hope that it's all on the up and up....that you mean it and not out just to get some gigs and look like a hero. I hope it all works out for you.

I only say this because when you started this saga, you rolled him under the bus. Now, you're saying 15 years of friendship means something and now admit he has been there for you.

It's how wierd things can change in life so quickly. Let us know how this all pans out.
