Urgent BMI/Music Licensing Question

Tomorrow I have an event on a military base, it's basically like a meet & greet for a military housing complex. Basically I'm to play upbeat music and make announcements. I was asking the coordinator about the kind of music they want me to play (pop? rock? hip-hop?) and she said that they had paid royalties to be licensed to play music through BMI, so I should check the list on the BMI website and only play that music.

This is a gig where I am actually being paid by our government and I have found more red tape than I have ever experienced before.

My question is, what music ISN'T licensed through BMI? I look at the artist list and it seems like all artists are listed, practically. Should I worry about this or should I just play music and not stress over it?

Thanks for your advice,

-Aaron

Not stress over it -- I doubt the music cops will be there watching your song list :)

No, but the music police might be....

Aaron:

Just be prepared for the body cavity search when you get on site.

Just joking.

I am a Federal employee and still have to go through the red tape. I tend to stay away from government functions.
