I will pipe in here. A DI Box is a great accessory to any kit and I have one that I have used a couple times it allowed me to run XLR for most of the run saving me having to use RCA for longer runs than 25 ft or simply for 23 or less even. They arent a budget breaker even if you buy a good one. Once you use it the first time I bet you will want to use it again. Oh and its great to run laptop through to powered speakers as well (ceremony/ cocktail anyone?)

I'll take the cocktail, you can have the ceremony... :sqlaugh:

that was the PERFECT setup for the PEFECT punchline

(and Rick was the perfect person to deliver it)

YES!
a DI will defitinely come in handy in the future.
but if you're cheap like me....
you can buy some pretty long RCA cables online, at local music stores, or radio-shack type stores
and add an adaptor
then it comes in handy if someone goes old school and uses a projector or DVD with RCA cables.

yes ausumn I agree and have done that in the past and when I bought enough connectors and RCAs to equal the amount two DI boxes would have cost not to mention the ease of storage and use I bought one and can use my excess XLR and RCA to reach any projector etc. If not mistaken 20-45 dollars for most any unit depending on quality.

Compromise, compromise compromise! Why not do it the right way and so what Scott advises or at least use the out from the other person's sound card? Are you running a business or what?
By the way while you are at it why not buy this book and learn some things! http://www.google.com/products/cata...a=X&ei=BxgRTvrSL8TXgQeu6ZnMBA&ved=0CEAQ8wIwAQ

This sounds kinda rude to me,,,, could have said the same thing a tad nicer there,,,,,

Dude, it's a one shot deal -- why invest a lot of time, money and effort into it...?

There's no ROI on building a setup, that he will probably never use again.

BTW, he IS using the other person's sound card -- it's built into the lappy.

The onboard soundcard in the lappy is probably inferior for a run that long. Why is everyone so afraid to spend money on their business? If he isn't making enough to cover the added costs then he isn't charging enough.

I'm not sure,,, but I think the "he" you two are arguing about might be a she.......

Chuck you have she on the brain one to many bikinis. I have spoke to Abbey aka Ernest just last week and he is in fact of the male gender no bikini for YOU!!!

AHHHHH LOL Sorry Jon,,, and way sorry to Abby,.... bot do I feel stupid,,,, guess I'll go outside, lay on the white sandy beach, have a Mai Tai, cool down as the light tradewinds caress my body and watch the girls in bikinis jump in and out of the water and then dry themselves slowly with towels,,,,
