...that not all clients are my clients.

At a local Country club last night, after I had set up and was on my way to the dressing room, I snapped some shots of what some people will settle for at there company party (I know it was a company party because they proudly had a welcome sign at the door with the company name & logo). I hope they didn't have the nads to invite any clients to this soire'.

I bet this guy knows what he is worth!

This is, afterall, the holiday season - that time of year where deejays of all sorts come out of the woodwork.

The pictures below were captured on Dec 2.

I was in this building (held 2 holiday events in 2 different rooms) for over an hour. The room these images were captured in was vacant for the entire time I was onsite. The reason I mention the 'excess of an hour' was I know if I had over an hour before guests arrived, I'd tidy cords up, at the least.

- If this DJ is who I think it was, he was invited to join us over a month ago.

- If this DJ I invited to join us is lurking, call me if the pictures need to come down. The number is in my sig.

The point is not to berate - rather to remain on topic about what sharing information can lead to - fixing errant tendencies. If a new DJ doesn't experience anyone or anything other than what they've created themselves, there is no knowledge of "other" or "better ways".

I truely hope the folks being entertained that evening enjoyed themselves.

Not going to criticize, but those pics make my setup look neat! LOL

I have definitely improved in how my set up looks from a year ago and am constantly looking at ways to "tidy" things up and be more "effecient" in set up and tear down.

That's what I'm here for, to learn, listen and help when I can.

Just a few comments:

It doesn't appear that all the pics are of the same event.

What is the system of the table in your first pic (not the url photos) I see the laptop but I see no amps, no speakers, no lights. To be honest it looks more like a system setup that I have seen some BG supply for their own weddings or a corporate function supplying for their own event. To me though it almost appears to be a projector and not a audio system (I just can't tell from the pic)

If it is a DJ the first thing he needs to learn is how to make use of his own table and coverings or the use of an applied skirt in hiding gear and wires. Some of the URL pics appear to be in a different venue using different gear or it is two seperate setups from appearences.

This stuff serves to demonstrate why we don't utilize tables provided by the venue. Just give us an open space and we can start loading in.

Ken's right... this is the time of year when the wannabes and bottom dwellers start showing their ass. Many of 'em quote cheap and stretch themselves so thin that they barely have enough crap PA systems to spread around. This is also the time of year when no-shows and last-minute call-outs increase dramatically.

And get this: most people ~ clients and guests included don't really seem to care. All they need is someone to play music and make announcements (or provide a mic). So it looks like a spaghetti factory... they don't care. They got their music and mic.

Was it a DJ or just an employee using his home stuff.
I didn't care to check. I know that I'd be embarrassed to have that as an example of what my company chose to present as entertainment, either as a dj or host.

Rox, it's a weding.. focus on the important part.

Was the music selection appropriate to his guest's needs?
Was the client happy?
Where guests involved?

The good details, please...
It was a company holiday party and I was to busy rockin' my crowd to be concerned with that mess.

Like I said, confirmation, simple confirmation.

funny thing is with limited knowledge and only a pic or two one could possibly be sharinga pic of another DJ who actually made more on the night than the other entertainment in the venue. No offense Rock but I have heard of just such a thing. Had a competitor who charged a 1/3 less than my services and had equal or better setup than myself. Its all relevant to only one thing. One mans Junk!!!

Sometimes, those who have "crappy" equipment/set-ups/such can get the job done well and make more money than those of us who are actually "professional".
