RGB mixing can be achieved via DMX on the colorstrips & I do use them for uplighting @ wedding receptions, matching the wedding colors.
After reading the manual a bit you can either do it via DMX or right through the ColorStrips them selves. You just go into the RGB mixing mode ( I think its program 21) then press enter to program each color, Red is P, Green is F, and Blue is C. That is if you want a static color of course.
if one does not have DMX capabilities, are their sufficient auto programs to "woo" and "ahh"?
I have truss, but use "T" bar setup (one at each end of DJ table) with par cans across the top and two special effect lights hanging below. Would I link both together with a XLR cord and both would automatically sync their programs?
I've been wanting to discard the par cans for years. Now may be the time to switch?

You just hook up a DMX cable from the Master Out from the first unit to the DMX in on the next COLORstrip.
Program #23 is basically an AUTO show. The two fixtures link together and do some chases and strobing, some color mixing and whatnot. I tested it by playing different types of music, with different BPM's and genres and it followed along quite nice.
They were going crazy during Darude - SandStorm and actually Washed and Strobed all at the right times.

I utilize the colorstrips on top of my trussing from time-to-time.....looks fabulous. There is one channel, that will cycle thru all the pre-programmed sound active programs, which is what I used before going w/ Freestyler and having dmx control. When I link them together, I actually flip-flop them so the programs run into one another on each strip. In Master-Slave mode, one will control the other and they will be in sync. I think pricing is around $175 to $190.

Yes, the built-in programs rock! I use them all the time.
Yes, just run a standard XLR from one light to the other and they will sync perfectly!
In the photo they are linked and running sound-active (No DMX) on channel 23 which runs through all the built-in programs.

Freestyler is a dmx software program.

I just received them yesterday...sweet!!! I will be using them this weekend for the first time...
You can also check out VenueMagic The interface is similar to audio editing software so you don't have to learn a new interface to do your lighting.

not to derail this thread but having looked at both of these options last year I opted for th 4bar and I will illustrate one of the reasons. Even with the lights on full in the room notice how I directed the single head to the curtain banner. You should have seen it when the lights were out. It appeared as if the banner was a lighting unit of its own as the head shot LED color on the banner illuminating it to colors and changing with the beat.

Chinese Restaurant in Richmond I cant remember the exact name. They have a bigger ballroom upstairs. I had one of the heads shining on a Crystal Chandelier which lit up awesome as well. I often use any lighting fixtures including Flourescent's in a bank on the ceilings and light them with color.
Very nice. We are planning on getting 4 of those Omnisistem Par Cans to do chase patterns and up lighting with. We mainly got the COLORstrips for wash lighting and to fill up the truss so it doesn't look so empty.
The Chauvet ColorStrip display video shows "x" number across the truss. How many units are there (4)?
Does anybody know how the ADJ Megapixel 50 compares to the Chauvet Colorstrip? I'm not sure if this is the comparable unit or not. It looks to be about the same length as the ColorStrip.
Can the ColorStrip be dimmed in "sound activated" mode or must it be done only by DMX control?

One advantage of the ADJ Mega Pixel is a dimming channel.
I absolutelt love the versatility of the Mega Pixel. You can place it on the floor and uplight a wall, or you can mount it on a truss and light up the whole dance floor. It's built in programs include a sound active mode, so, in answer to your question, no DMX controller is necessary.
But.......if you want a really stellar light show--get a DMX controller for some spectacular effects! I use the American DJ MY DMX Software to control my lighting. I am very satisfied with it.
