COLORStrip or COLORpalette

I use the Color Pallets and if you are looking for good color wash along with cool chase patterns then they are great.... as I understand however if you are looking for a very bright "Par Can Like" chase effects where the light is linkable into one big light (meaning linking them will make them appear as one light both stand alone and on DMX) then the Color Strip is the way to go...

I like both... and would own both lights as their applications are and can be different.

My vote would be 1 Color Strip (effectively can be used like a set of par can effects) and 2 Color Pallets (for color wash) .....
 
I use the Chauvet Color Bank LED, has the look of Par cans (4 Circles), Very bright, but not as bright as the Colorstrips, which is the common gripe about the colorstrips. If you buy 2 or more, they come with pins to physically connect units and form a longer wash light. It has DMX so you can have continous programming also.

Red,Green,Blue Techno Strobes

I got to of the Chauvet techno strobes and master ,slave them and they work wonders. They can be had for a cheaper price than the colorpalette.
 
I have a couple colorpalettes in my truss and like the color wash effect when I am doing school dances of 500~600 or more kids. Due to their brightness, I aim them at the ceiling when I am doing weddings. The strips and palettes really are different effects and it will be an individual decision (ie New York Strip or Delmonico...)
 
The Chauvet 4bar is like a set of four par cans and DMX or sound activated. I point mine on banners or crystal light structures and also for area lighting up stairs in a two story building. I dont get man complaints about them being too bright but many compliments for them. Kirby has two and I imagine I will eventually as well.
 
I have 4 Colorstrips and love them. The 4 span the top of my truss nicely. They are bright, however last wedding I used them back in mid-December when I set off the light show it definitely had the guests pointing and talking. I had lots of nice comments.

First pic shows the truss without any lights on, second shows just how much light these actually throw. B&G were ecstatic. They were an easy book, paid 100% in advance and were expecting just a set of par cans. Folks like these I want to have in my corner.....so I brought a FAR better show for them. Cultivating good Karma isn't hard. :)

own the colorstrip and love it.
it's like it's own little light show.
I also like the fact that it's wider than the pallettes
so I feel it's better to cover the WIDTH of the dance floor
(not that the pallette won't do the job)
 
I own a colorPALETTE and have found it to be a lot of fun when you have the DMX control to go along with it. I use it for chases and tons of different effects based on what I need. Sometimes I use it to test out new chases instead of pulling out 8 LED pars. I'll definately get more as I need them.

I think we are gonna go with the COLORstrips. We like the chase patterns on them, strobbing effect, and we can have 4 setup and it covers the length of the truss. This video pretty much sold us.

We are also gonna buy some of the COLORStrip Mini's for uplighting and doing some backlight work of the truss or maybe the DJ Booth Facade

For my large school dances, I use a combination of my 14' truss, 2 video screens, and a chauvet 4-bar.

My 14' truss consists of:

6 ADJ mighty scans
2 elation UV-washes
2 chauvet colorpallettes
1 ADJ Galaxian 3D
2 moonflowers
2 ADJ Vertigos
1 Adsco Linedancer
1 16" mirror ball
2 ADJ led pin spots

I also use a chauvet 4-bar for "backfill" colorwash on the far side of the dancefloor

I also use 2 5'x7' screenworks rear projection screens for video and live dancefloor vid cam action

We just placed an order for 2 COLORstrips from NLFX.

We are probably going to purchase a few more in the future for some more up lighting and wash lighting fun.

I'll post back how we like them in 5-7 business days when we receive them.
 
Just got the ColorStrips today and I am very impressed. Build Quality is very nice for the price. It has quite a bit of built in programs so reading the instructions is a must to try and get the most out of them. They are very bright, and the color mixing between the RGB is awesome. You can get some nice purples and teals from it.

I need to order the Velleman so I can hook them up to FreeStyler but even in sound active mode they are sure to impress.
 
What about custom colors? Can either of these lights be programmed for custom colors that go with a couple's wedding colors?

For example, we had someone ask us about doing a color wash in various shades of blue only. Can this be achieved with the COLORstrip?
