Recently the MMA Company I have been doing sound and lighting for approached me wanting me to take over their full A/V (Audio Visual) productions, well have JJDJ.

So after going back and forward we have come to a deal, waiting on their attorneys to draft the contract.

What they wanted me to do, I couldn't do, and I just don't have enough equipment to do it. So they told me to make a list of what I needed, and they are purchasing everything. We are talking over 10G in gear! And then 50% of every fight we do for them will go toward that debt. But it’s an interest free loan.

On the flip side it is going to be putting a lot of gear into our warehouse, so we can start doing larger shows and going down some new paths.

They are locking me in on a two-year contract with a guaranteed number of fights, after the first year I’ll get a 10% bonus. They cover all my travel and hotel as well too.

Now the con. I have to give them priority. Meaning if I have a wedding on June 3rd, and they tell me within 45-60 days we are scheduling a fight for June 3rd. I have to find another DJ to do that wedding. So this will force me into becoming a multi-op company sooner than later. Something I have wanted to do, and have been slowly but surely making the moves to do.

But like anything large, there is a lot of overhead such as my liability insurance will skyrocket from 200-300/year to 600-800, which in the big scheme of things isn't horrible. I'll have to have at least 2 roadies to unload and setup the trussing (to give you an example our proms we do use about 30 ft. of trussing. Now we are talking 170-180' of trussing.) And we will have to handle no only sound and lighting, but a video switch as well between multiple camera feeds.

Right now its set for 8 fights a year, but more than likely will be 12-15 fights. But if you think about it $3000-$5000 a fight to JJDJ, that’s a mortgage payment. It changes so many things!

Very Exciting! So if anyone is from the Virginia, Maryland, DC area and looking to pick up some work, I’m going to need to start working on bring some DJ’s on board. Right now I pass away more gigs than I’m booking, and now with this new contract, I need to have some solid talent on board who can pick up and go for school events, weddings, and more!

My first goal is I need to duplicate our school rigs, because when we put our list of gear needed to do these MMA fights its including a lot of the gear we run at proms. So if I need to have another team member do a prom for us, we need to insure we can deliver the quality of shows we have built a reputation for.

Thats the big time man. What kind of gear do you use for your regular gigs, large gigs and big shows?

That sounds like a WONDERFUL problem to have!

I'm not complaining, I just don't want to get overly excited. Start blowing money everywhere and get an ego. Ive always promised myself not matter how much my company grew i would remember where I started. Its a fantastic opportunity and seeing a freight truck unload 100+ feet of global truss is going to be awesome (and a pain to unbox all that stuff). They want to do their first show Jan 28th with all this new gear that hasn't been ordered yet, their lawyers are finishing my contract and agreement. But i know I have about $2000 in cabling, clamps, and misc stuff to be able to pull it off. So I'm trying to stay focused and smart about it.

Sent you over a message dude

Got it. We can talk.

We can run our k12's for most weddings, then we start adding in a single JBL sub, or one of the two LS801pbs. then with the big ones we run four tops and 2 of the ls801's. Im hoping with this added income i can start buying line arrays. I want to take training and become a certified rigger so we can do chain motors. But one step at a time, I need to get a good team together.

THAT sounds like a great gig!! I wish you all the best man!

You have a great opportunity there just make sure all the contracts are in order

Gigantic undertaking. Hope you are up to the task...sounds like it. Dependable and reliable help is not always the easiest task to accomplish. All the best. I'd be looking at a couple of Yorkville 21" powered subs for your events. Just a thought for what it's worth.

Congratulations and all the best in your new adventure.

I'm sorry I must've missed it. You said there was a downside somewhere?

Well there could be if the DJ business isn't handled correctly he will come back to a bunch of gear and no bookings but I'm sure he knows that and has a plan

Thank you sir.

Hopefully we will have something in writing tmw, i can look over it and have my attorney look over it.

Congrats my brother! That is outstanding news.

Theres always downside, the glass is always half full, but whats in it will kill you! LOL.

I just worry that what happens if i can't find an entertainer to cover a wedding, or prom. But now I'm contracts to be two places at once. A little scary, I need to find good talent for sure.

It is that for sure. We are doing close to a 30x30 box truss setup. we have 4 ST180's that we will have to use to hoist the rig up to 14-20' high. It just a lot of liability, cabling, power, diving into the video department which i have never been into. But Ben Stowe has been a great help explaining stuff.

Indeed Jeff. Im working on a plan now. But open to suggestions/thoughts! I want to do this and do it right! Strong believe in buy once, cry once. But at the same time I don't want to be the laughing stock in the production world.

Stay away from regular DJ gear and instead look at FOH systems. You will need processing for those kind of Gigs, it would not just be plug and play. You may have to accommodate an artist every once in awhile so a Mixer Board and a few DI Boxes may be in the offing. Get a few speakers with power not a bunch of speakers with loudness. That would be my suggestions.

Deal has been going back and forward, looks like its back on! Hopefully tomorrow I can pull the trigger on ordering the bulk! I still have to start doing the math on how many cables i need and lengths, clamps, and other odd's and end.
