Well, it appears I'm about to having my first Saturday (5/14) with 2 Uplighting jobs (the 3rd date has a photobooth on it) on the same night. Besides my elation for the bookings and also being slightly scared at the logistics, I see I need to buy another batch of LED cans. I currently have 20 Studs and a couple of Blazers from Cheaplights. It looks like they're phasing the studs out and the hamster will be the replacement. On the stageape website, it shows 990lux for a stud and 99lux for a hamster. Does anybody know how the brightness compares? I'm thinking that has to be a mis-print. If they're comparable, I may pickup 10-15 hamsters and another 5-10 blazers.

Anybody up on these fixtures?

I think they are phasing the stallion out, not the stud. The Stud has been improved for power-linking. And, you're reading the wrong info about the Stud light....the 990 lux is in reference to a standard par38 with gel.

Ah, you're correct although they've already taken the stud off the cheaplights site. From the Stageape site, it does show 1521 lux for the stud and I'm guessing it's 990 for a hamster. Oh well, it may not matter anyway. The 3rd DJ I could send on that job may not be available anyway. Bummer, I had 3 packages lined up, all over $1k apiece. That would've been my first single night above $3k.

The Stud is enough for a lot of my jobs (12ft ceiling or less) but I don't think dropping another 1/3 in brightness would be sufficient.

LOL I blame my cell phone... ;)

Rob, you can ONLY blame the cell phone when you use it. You can't blame the cell phone when your using the computer.

:triwink:

Out of curiousity, how many are getting uplighting jobs only (no audio / video)?

naw actually Rob mistyped having Hamster mentioned. dont even mention Gerbil when he is trying to type trust me.

New movie - Lord Of The Gerbils - starring our very own Rob!

It's Lord of the Hampsters... biotch...:tritongue:

Yep, but you don't want to know where the gerbils barracks are located yorofl:

As for the LED lights, if Canute is not busy spreading something he may make a run to Cheaplights warehouse and video tape the differences in brightness ;)

All one has to do is call the company and ask which one is the brightest!

I was being fecicious again. But to answer the question, I'd take input from both and then make my decision.

I've been a long time user of the Cheaplights Stallion light. For a light under $50, they work great for uplighting and are solid built. I'm sad to see them being discontinued, but I think the Stud light will make a nice replacement. I've got one on order to compare it to my Stallions, before making a decision on either purchasing another batch of 10 Stallions or going ahead with the Stud.

I've got both stallions and studs and don't see a nickel's worth of difference. I did finally get an email back from stage ape. Even though the website lists 600lux difference, they said the output between the stallion and the hamster is equivalent but the hamster has a tighter beam. I may order 1 to compare it myself as I'm doubtful. Think I'll also pickup another small batch of the blazers as well. Those fixtures are very bright, well-built and I'm surprised more people aren't using them.
