The introductions (coordinated with the venue) The toasts (coordinated with the bridal party) Cake Cutting, Parent Dances (Venue, Photographer, Parents, etc) EVERYTHING has to be coordinated by the DJ. A successful reception is forward momentum from the arrangement of the events (ever have a bride that wanted to do introductions, first dance, parent dances all at once?) to the customization of specialty songs" (Father Daughter dance is great until you reach 6 minutes into you raise me up) To imply that the music is the only entertainment is incorrect.

Yes, quite often and I LOVE IT! They want to screw the formal/traditional BS and party. Let the pictures tell that story and get on with the celebration!

That's what's memorable and it doesn't take a book, seminar or some $3K self proclaimed guru to teach us that.
 
Hmmm don't get it...if they are doing all of the specialty dances how is that screwing the formal traditional stuff? If that's the case they wouldn't do it at all. Does front loading everything get you to the dancing sooner? No it doesn't. So the let's party comment doesn't make sense either. If you are going to say screw the formal stuff then don't do it. I only say this because in my experience incorporating events into the evening has worked much better than doing it all at once.
 
Ahh Wes your onto something I have been told and researched the phenomena. The number is much smaller now than even before with the economic issues facing such a chunk into todays budget restraints across the board. I will stay at my nice payday rate and do many gigs every year. I hear the work less make more comment from the chosen few and I blow it off. I prefer to work regular it keeps me well TUNED (get it?) and well oiled( hmm does this mean I drink on the job? Oh MY!!)
 
Wes I think it was made clear Sarge guessed the individual. About that one in Texas he likely still does events in California as he probably doesnt garner 3 bills in the big state of Texass
 
Guys I can totally see where some people in the biz are making dreams happen regularly at 3K or more. It's totally doable. Its just not for the majority of us.

Mo money, Mo problems.

Look at what photographers get paid.

There a tons of people in tight circles with lots of money. Once you are in, you are in. Plain and simple. I don't want to be a destination DJ or an exclusively high end entertainer. It's just not there for me. People pay absurd amounts of money to get incredibly high priced amenities. Entertainment for a Pro athlete at 3K is an easy dunk for them.

We aren't trying to talk brides into going from 500 to 3K....we are starting off with brides that want to have it all and are willing to pay any price for it.


It hasn't been stated either that this is the ONLY price they do weddings for. The basic service of DJ entertainment at the reception for 3 hours may only be one part of it. Too open ended of a thread.

Getting the foot in the door and walking through the door is the first step.

I got hired by a company to DJ a $2500 wedding for the CFO for KU Hospital. 500 guests. Tons of uplighting, photo booth etc. I made $1500 for the show take home. It was in a tent outdoors in the rain with tons of logistics issues to make this "magical" evening come to life. They danced all friggin' night and had a blast and left me a 3 star review on WW. What a crappy feeling. Plus at one point I got shocked pretty good while standing in wet grass. In the end, I thought we did pretty good considering but it wasn't good enough.

My foot left the door to close. I'm not interested in these types of wedding clients for now.

Ultimately, There is no limit to what a DJ can make. It's the frequency that matters. Averages people...Averages.

I'm positive that he is adding value - I'm also positive that there are alot here that add value - so that's not a difference.

well in these times of economic strain even the WED membership has dropped around 50% of its original price. I guess it wasnt WORTH it.
 
He is probably out doing 10 gigs to cover off large chunk of his yearly total of 200 plus gigs. :triwink:

"All aspects of the wedding" eh?
That's what makes this so laughable - there's a whole 9 course meal here and you're bragging about special training to be captain of ONE element a single side dish? Like you're not even director of the whole salad just the cucumber slices?

WED could just as well be a self-esteem issue for DJ's with an inferiority complex (the super-ego competing with celery sticks.) Nothing screams: "big fish in my own tiny pond" louder than WED. It's like making yourself the CEO of a sole proprietorship.
