Can I use spandex/Lycra fabric from the fabric store to make a video screen like DJSCREENS?
I have never been a miser or cheap, but I really think their screens are way over priced but it seems like the would work good.

Are they more than just a piece of spandex with custom loops to stretch and hang?

Has anyone made one of these?
I am wanting a rear projection solution.
I saw a screen at Macy's with a rear projector and it looked and felt like some type of silk fabric. Maybe even the spandex I talk of.

make sure you get spandex that is complete without seams linking two pieces together. Otherwise a seam will appear.

Sounds like you have used this. Does it look good? Goo picture?
I would really like to buy something today to have someone put the loops in it for use next week. This venue I am doing for NYE only has a way for me to use Rear Projection. there is no room for front projection. I have always wanted to use rear anyway!

The size is up to you. This material comes 112" wide (~10 feet). Do you want a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio?

How much throw distance do you have from the wall to where the screen will be set up?

Go here and enter your Projector make and model:

Then pick the screen ratio.

Now you can see the size range of screen you can use for that throw range.

Next, you'll need a way to attach it. That depends on what type of frame you plan to use.

If you want the hooks like the DJ Screen, then there will be some sewing involved.

Joanns won't have the right kind of spandex. Trust me, I've tried. Dazian is your best bet.

Alright. I went to the projectorcentral sight and may be a bit confused.
I think it looks simple enough but want to makes sure.
If I choose a short distance, that will tell me what screen size I will need. But if I wnat a further distance (larger image size) it will tell me another screen size.
Now what would size of fabric would I use to cover different sizes. For instance, if I have lots of space to make image bigger or very limited space for smaller image. What is the size of fabric to cover these? Is the stretching going to take care of most of it?
I was thinking of using my current truss system to hook the screen to. Lie on the djscreen site. Are there other ways?

I trust you and will not waste my time. I only see that the fabric djscreen uses is spandex/lycra (whatever that is) and that is where I got my first reference point for my idea. Now I will focus on the Dazian.
My projector is an Optoma EzPro 739. Can anyone help with the screen needs from projector central?

I picked a 7.5' x 10' (4:3) screen for your projector. You're going to need ~ 22 feet from the wall to the screen to fill it.

I will say because of the size it had a small seam, which we were not too wild about. The company that made the screen put in metal rings to allow bungee cords to be used.

I am seeing the light! Just got off the phone with the Dazian rep.
He explained a lot to me. They charge $24.95 for linear foot of the Trapeze plus fabric. The width is 10' So in this case, I would need 3 yards (9ft.)
Now I need to measure the truss I want to mount it on. It is one of those sound stage trusses that I used to use for lights. Not sure what the dimensions are.
Now the info you found for me that fills the screen is great, I do not always have this much room so I can just put the projector closer and it will just put the image in the middle of the screen with unused screen space around the image right?

I need to measure the space my truss has but I think that ordering 3 yards is plenty. That will give me a screen size of 10'x9'. I think that will be good for the truss setup. not sure, may be too big...

My truss is a 10' wide by max height of 11.5
So I can use the 10' of the fabric from top to bottom to stretch to the 11'
and then the 3 yards (9ft) to stretch to the 10' of the width.
Sound right?
they have a sewing service but it sounds like it may be high priced. I know a few seamstresses in town. I wonder if they can handle this? I may call them.
Do they use grommets in the material or just sew the fabric to hold a bungee, like a button hole on a shirt? Or is it an actual rubber grommet sewn in?

What do you think about those? You just need to pick the correct size for your aluminum tubing of the truss.

No sewing involved at all. I think another comany may make these in black?
