Build an old-skool podium ... 10U-14U rolling rack with a coffin case on top. Comes apart, you can change the mixer as needed.

LOL... That sounds pretty much like what I had before I bought YOUR split SKB racks and re-worked my Large System. Back to the future!!![emoji1]

I think many of the current podiums make it look like you're giving a sermon ...

Maybe you can call it "Taking the audience to church" ..

The Denon MC7000 I was watching on eBay sold for $675.25 + $65 shipping. It included a nice slider case. It was all I could do to refrain from bidding, and I likely would have won it, as I was gonna place a bid that exceeded the high bid by a bit. There were only 3 bids, two of which were in the last 10 seconds.[emoji1] I think the winner got a great deal. Oh well... there will be others if and when I make up my mind about building the Podium System.

I saw that one too... That was a really good price. I already have two or else I would have bid on that one.[emoji4]

Not sure how far we’re going to take this, but I bought one of the components I wanted if I’m gonna build a new Podium Style system. I bought a PreSonus StudioLive AR8 mixer. You may recall that it’s the one in the conceptual diagram I posted previously...

... I got a VERY good deal on it. Now, though, I have no need for my Allen & Heath ZED 10FX. I suppose it’s time to start selling some of my unused gear.[emoji4]

Was there something wrong with the A&H? Seems the Presonus has nearly the same features (other than the recorder and maybe mute).

They are VERY similar, and it’s crazy, I know. I wanted a mixer with built-in Bluetooth (like my Denon DN-410X) for my Podium system, but the form factor of the Denon would not work, or I’d have just bought a second one. On my Small System I added a little Bluetooth device, and could do the same with a Podium system. I just prefer having it built-in to minimize complexity. However, buying the PreSonus does make the ZED 10 expendable. It wouldn’t be the first piece of gear I bought that ended up being replaced.

... And you know... I’m a gear whore. I like gear, I like playing with it, I like talking about it, and I like performing with it.[emoji1]

I'd offer to buy it if I didn't already have a bigger one (ZED 12FX).

The Allen & Heath ZED’s are really nice mixers. I’m sure I’ll have no trouble selling it. As you may recall, I bought it based on YOUR recommendation. I have NO regrets, even though it wasn’t used much.[emoji4]

Got my sights on the computers I’d like to install in the Podium Style System... When I started thinking about this a few months ago, the Intel NUC i5 computers were overpriced, but there are several options now at prices I would be willing to pay. I’m not sayin’ I’m ACTUALLY gonna build this system, but if I was gonna do it, I would need a couple of small computers.[emoji1]... And a Denon MC7000. There’s the RUB!!!... Prices, even on used MC7000’s, are still around $700. The prices will come down at some point; I just don’t know when. In the meantime, I could still use my Pioneer DDJ-T1 if I had to, and then use a little USB switcher device like this one...

... in order to have the two computers attached to the controller. It’s not as good as having two live USB connectors in the controller though, as you’d have to switch from one to another manually. It may be no big deal since I don’t even know if I’m really gonna build a Podium Style System.[emoji1]

I just bought this PreSonus StudioLive AR8 mixer a few days ago. I don’t even have it yet, but I was watching TWO of them on eBay, because of course you never know if you’ll be the winning bidder. Well, the auction for the second one ended this afternoon, and I was pleased to see that it sold for $16.50 more than I paid for mine.[emoji1] OK; $16.50 isn’t much, but it still makes me feel like I got a pretty good deal. Both were in excellent condition and came with all the original packaging. Sometimes I think getting a good deal is almost as much fun as buying the gear itself.[emoji1]

Sometimes it works out better to NOT bid on items on eBay that are up for auction. I was watching several Intel NUC computers, but there was one seller who had five of them for sale (buy it now priced) at $299 each. Then he lowered the price to $269 each, which put them close to my budget. I sent him a message offering to buy two at $250 each, and he accepted. So now I think I’ve got the computers for my Podium Style System... If I decide to build it, which I’m NOT saying I am.[emoji1]

The Denon MC7000 is gonna be the tough one. Don’t really have many options at this time, but things change... PATIENCE.

OK... Now I’m feeling REALLY good about my nano computer purchases. I had another one on my (eBay) watch list and the auction ended this morning. With 2 minutes remaining it was sitting at $204, and I thought; MAN![emoji1]... But in the last minute it climbed to over $300, and ended up selling for $350 plus $14 for shipping. I paid $100 less and got free shipping. Yoo hoo!!![emoji1]

Now... I already had a plan for how to use these computers. They have quad core i5’s and 8GB of RAM, but only 128GB SSD’s. It would be easy enough to clone the drives to larger disk drives, but I’m gonna do it differently this time. You can’t share a portable hard drive between two computers. It has to be dedicated to one, then it can be shared by another computer on a network. I always put an Ethernet switch in my systems because I share a mouse and keyboard, but I have never shared a music library disk between computers, as it requires the host computer to be running, which may not always be the case. So this time I’m gonna build a NAS, attach it to the switch, and share it with both computers. That way if one computer goes down, the other one can keep playing. It means just one copy of the music library.

Well... I have my PreSonus StudioLive AR8 now. It just came this morning. I was a little surprised to find that it had already reached my town when I checked the tracking this morning, and it was not expected until Friday.

So, it was packed in a plain brown cardboard box; no original packaging. That’s OK. The power cord and USB cable were included, but not the documentation (manuals). That’s OK too. I downloaded the manual and I’ll spend some time reading it this afternoon before I hook it up and play with it. I LOVE getting new stuff to play with, even though it’s obviously not new. It was a LITTLE dusty. First thing I did was clean it up, which made it look A LOT better. Cleaning around all those knobs and buttons took some time, despite the small size. After cleaning it up, I found there was only one minor little scratch on the face of it near the main volume knob. Other than that, it looks like new. I’m excited to read about some of the features that I’m not familiar with from my other mixers. At first inspection, I think this was a good choice, and I think I’m gonna like it.[emoji4]
