Yikes! I've had a grandfather and a bride's dad die at a reception, but the bride?

Woman, 26, collapses, dies on her wedding day in Calif.

The Associated Press 3:12 PM EDT, June 4, 2009

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A native of the Holland, Mich., area collapsed and died at her wedding reception in California, the victim of a brain aneurysm.

Amy Lynn Slenk, 26, died on the day she married longtime boyfriend Cole Handley in a vineyard in Soledad, Calif., about 115 miles southeast of San Francisco.

The bride was enjoying "the happiest day of her life" on May 25 when she collapsed at the reception, said her mother, Diane Slenk of Ottawa County's Holland Township.

"I know they were very excited about starting their lives together and starting a family," the mother said Wednesday to The Holland Sentinel. "They were planning on doing so many things together."

Following Amy Slenk's death, a California neurosurgeon told her family that although she appeared healthy, she had a pre-existing aneurysm and "it could've erupted at any time," her mother said.

Maybe she saw the DJs Bill! :sqerr:

Wow! This is the second instance in as many years that I've heard of this sort of thing happening both times it was the bride.

And I'll bet neither were Bridezillas.

Hey did anybody think to play "Only the Good Die Young"?

Please insert your bad joke song title here:

Very sad indeed.

How anyone here can even joke about such a thing is pathetic.

Have you ever seen someone have an acute cerebral event like aneurysm burst or other life-altering, or in this case, life-ending event occur?

For the family & her new husband to have to deal with this...my condolences.

I've been involved in 2 weddings that had death hanging over them. The day after my own wedding one of my wife's sisters passed due to liver failure caused by years of alcoholism. Her husband hide the sickness from us, so as not to ruin our wedding. We do the best we can to celebrate our anniversary.

The second was a tragedy in that 3 people lost their lives on the way to a New Year's wedding. They were traveling on the TransCanada highway when they hit a major snow and ice pellet storm. The roads were treacherous and they lost control and swerved into the path of a semi. All 3 died at the scene the day before the wedding.

The bride and groom decided to go ahead with the wedding. I wasn't aware of what happened until they started their speeches with a dedication to there memory.

WOW,

This reminds we of something that happened to one of our brides about 2 years back... Some of you may recall the story from an old podcast.

The abridged version:
The bride had spent most of her wedding day hunched over in pain. Apparently she had a lot of on and off health issues she was battling the past few years. She also spent lots of time in the bridal suite. We had to change a lot of things around to accommodate her and make her comfortable, and we made sure we did.

The groom had said to us that his wife was touched by our efforts to make her comfortable, and was choked up when we had everyone cheer for her during the last dance so that she could hear it from the bridal suite. With a tear in his eye, he said to us that she was so strong, that she inspired him more & more everyday to be a better and stronger person.

Mike & I offered to him right there that we wanted to do a post reception for them free of charge anytime, when she felt better, so that she could enjoy the day. I'm telling you, these were great people.

Unfortunately, The next time we saw both of them, less than a week later it was at her funeral. She went straight to the hospital from the reception and never left. In fact, she was still wearing her wedding gown when she passed. :sqfrown:

But yet we can joke about all other sorts of tragedies..and this is ok??

Lighten up for crying out loud. I feel bad too..doesn't mean no one can crack a few jokes.

There is a time and place for everything. Moments like this deserve decorum.

Sad indeed. And so young.

If she was your 89 year-old aunt, it could be expected. Gosh, people ain't supposed to die from aneurysms at 26. :(

I don't know what it is but it seems like a lot of women have brain aneurysms, my stepsister died 4 years ago at the age of 48 from one. She dropped dead while walking to her car one morning. The ME said that the condition had exsisted for many years, I can remember back when I first met her (at the age of 19) she would get these terrible headaches and it made me wonder if she didn't have the condition even back then.

The one good thing about it was the doctor said that the location of the aneurysm and it's size meant that she really felt no pain and her death was almost instant.

Today there was an accident on the road leading from my house to my property in Greene County there was a bad accident, a Sheriffs deputy had pulled out in front of an ice truck. The truck driver managed to get out but the deputy was trapped in his car, people were at the scene when the vehicles caught fire, the deputy was alert but the people who were there were unable to get him out of the car because his legs were pinned, he burned to death. (I hoped he didn't actually burn since he had his service weapon with him) I haven't gotten all the details yet! Some of these deputies were good friends I just hope this wasn't one of them!
