Hi Abbey,

Can I see your copy? I have ads running and they work quite well.

PM me if you want.

Radio spots can help when one considers his target market. Radio is a very target market oriented medium. :)

I think alot of it has to do with the ads you take out. Short term campagins are good if you are established or are having a sale but personally I would enter in to a long term imaging program it generally costs less per spot and is more effective

Here is an interesting piece on what alot of stations are calling the "Key Program". Now these guys are trying to sell something so the article is a bit slanted but it will give you a general idea

If I were to do this, I would direct them to my website for a special limited price offer. This would let me know if the spot was working. There needs to be some type of urgency.

Radio is "interuption based" (Outbound) Marketing. Radio listeners are tuning out the chatter in radio ads, for the most part.

One company in the local market "Mix Masters DJ & Limousine Service" advertises on the radio. They are seeking out the HS dance market.

the best advertising is organic or "Inbound" marketing. Its permissive because the prospects will seek you out, by getting recommendations from other folks. That is where social networking and online reputation management and SEO become important buzz words. Plus you only pay in your TIME that it takes to set up the listings or profiles....

We can agree to disagree....but for most folks, Radio buys are poor ROI (return on investment).

I think in this case I'd agree with DJMC on this.... but just this one time buddy don't get use to it... :sqwink:

Seriously... I know a club owner who has told me he has regular radio spots advertising the entertainment for the week and month.... and honestly I think I've only heard one spot... and it was so quick I couldn't even tell ya more than it had the clubs name in it.

I too tune out radio commercials or just hit the scan button to find the next beboppin station playin a tune I can hum to.

I would think that it would be more of, if they heard your name, saw your name and saw it again, it might help with it.

I think it would be one of those mediums that if you are in a smaller market might help more...

Thanks for the comment guys.

During the month of February we have 6 bridal shows within a 2 hour drive, in our area. So I decided to go with radio for the month of February to see what would happen. (Targeting only brides/weddings.) So far, I've picked up only 2 weddings. but the dollar amount has paid for all the bridal shows and more. I don't think it was the radio spots that got the weddings based on what the brides repeated to me. (The stuff I presented at the shows. Besides, I asked them.)

Abbey.....you are doing all the old fashioned stuff -- Bridal Fairs are also becoming obsolete.

Why no web site in your profile? All the secrecy actually HARMS your business...most white collar folks use the internet.

Really you think so?

I've lost two potential weddings for this year alone all because 1. I wasn't the guy they met at a bridal show... and 2. I wasn't at the bridal show.

For me that was a little more than a $1200.00 loss because I didn't do things the "old fashioned" way.

we're running :15s in Greensboro on the Clear Channel Cluster.. dismal performance right now

:15's no wonder! It's that Clear Channel less is more crap! Don't drink the kool-aid you need 60's to sell the fun and excitement. I think you've thrown your money away here.

DJMC: No secrecy, I'm just a "dumb user" when it comes to computers and some forums.

I think Bridal Shows are still in. All the ones I have done this month have had a increase of the number of brides registered by at least 40%.

People just aren't into surfing the net around here for wedding DJ's or suppliers. They like to do it the old fashioned way. Probably because "mommy and daddy" are still paying the shot.

Just heard a spot on the local Country music station that reminded me of this thread.

Apparently, in an effort to drum up ad time, the station is offering spots to local businesses in exchange for gift certificates or other service barter arrangements.

Gotta disagree hardcore with this one. Bridal Shows differ from region to region and sometimes even within regions. Around here, there's two shows that between them both, all the major players for every wedding service attend.

For DJs, a website can only do so much, in the end it all comes down to price and personality. Price you can find on a website, personality you can't find out until you meet someone and that's what a bridal show does, gives the bride a chance to meet with her perspective vendors.

as a radio copywriter and producer for 20-some years
the only DJ's who have ever advertised on our stations
were the ones who provided services for our bridal shows
and traded for the ads.
cannot say whether they work or not
but it definitely depends on the copy, the audience of the station, and the offer you put in the ad. (just like ANY business)
and ALWAYS put your website in it, not a phone number.
(much better retention)
I will say, NOT many DJ's use radio, so it's easy to stand out!
if you would like some advice, feel free to ask!

Doug I hear you but i come from radio too, mediums and majors only like you i like the frequency more than the time spent listening to my spot also the CC cluster here has the :15s lead the stop set Dry with no inbound promo only out so your spot is the tune out spot at least as short as 15 directing to my 888 number and website was the reason i thought this may work. Its paid for itself just nothing earth shattering (Greg if you're listening its on the buzzard)
