I'm really curious about the Bose S1, especially after seeing some of Scott's pics. I noticed he's using 2 of them but I'm wondering, is 1 enough for a typical ceremony (100-150 guests)? How long will it run off its internal battery?
I almost always use 1 at a ceremony. That gig a few weekends ago that used 2 was because I needed 3 mics and an instrument plugged in.
As we know, there is next to no ambient noise at a reception. One works perfectly. I can plugged 2 mics in and have music in the aux or Bluetooth.
Battery lasts about 10 hours.
I used 2 yesterday at the race because the coveragearea was spread out and the ambient noise would be much louder. 2 things you typically don't have for a ceremony.
But they worked perfectly. I really didn't need both when we went indoors, just quickly grabbed everything.
Just like the compacts, if you use them in the right scenarios, they are great. Expecting them to do something they can't will leave someone disappointed.
When the little birdie calls again, send them my way ..I have been offered one at almost no cost by a little birdie, and I turned it down, after I tried and tried to convince myself it could replace a compact.
Oh man, now my credit card's itching............So you mean I could plug in both channels of my GTD 2-channel mic, then just run an audio cable to my laptop, and I'm good to go? Man, that's a game-changer. I gotta get me one of these.
Back pack bag is $159. Pricey, but they are good bags and have freed up some hands so I could carry everything to the car at once. This is great for those ceremonies on the beach type ceremonies where a cart isn't going to help. There's a little room to carry some mics and cables too.
,I love the Bose S1 for what it is, but the Compact is a much better solution for weddings or any mobile event.
1. They sound better (way more headroom) + better low end.
2. Look better (don't nee tripod stand)
3. Can be used/setup with 0,1,2 of the included extension risers
The battery thing is a bonus, not something I would ever use. You still have to power a small mixer for anything serious, which includes any wedding ceremony. Running Bluetooth is not ideal and IMO, should not be used professionally.
Also, standing next to the speaker, and again, IMO doesn't look good, and to me is just lazy.
I know the Compact is more money, but I don't get all the hype with the S1. I have been offered one at almost no cost by a little birdie, and I turned it down, after I tried and tried to convince myself it could replace a compact.
The only way I would use them (how Scott uses them sometimes) is if I was running a signal from a Sennheiser bodypack (battery-powered, and super compact). Then I would buy 4 and place then all around as monitors for the ceremony, and maybe on the floor.
Then I would just have to power small ceremony rig (T4s and 3 QLXDs).
Just would have to remember to charge them every time.
Thanks. I was just about to purchase another backpack. this is exactly what I need. Just ordered it.Once you own one, you'll wish you had two... not because one isn't enough (it is), but because the speaker is just so damn versatile that you'll use it more than you thought you would. Get yourself two, and thank me later.
If you don't need a backpack but do want a case for your S1, it fits in an Arriba AC-125 case nicely with a little bit of room for cables and accessories. The Arriba bag is about $110 less than the Bose backpack and built twice as tough.
I still have 3 compacts and love them. But for most ceramonies I do, the s1 is more than enough IMO. The reality is I never really pushed the compacts because if I needed more, I'd prefer to use an L1.
But I do agree the compact has more headroom. I just never needed i..or rarely.
the battery power is a big thing for me...just makes setup and deciding placement much easier.
I agree Bluetooth is not ideal, but can come in handy. But the aux is there also...just like the compact.
We do not. We run our wirelessly and put it towards the front and we are setup, with AC, towards the back. It's a totally wireless solution and works fantastic. Are you standing next to the speaker to control it?
So to those of you who just use this one speaker at a ceremony. Are you standing next to the speaker to control it?
I assume you just have one mic and one music source?
I typically am somewhat close to the equipment. I usually have 1 or 2 mics
but all going through the S1 (using the inputs on back)?
