Bose S1 loudness?

I almost always use 1 at a ceremony. That gig a few weekends ago that used 2 was because I needed 3 mics and an instrument plugged in.

As we know, there is next to no ambient noise at a reception. One works perfectly. I can plugged 2 mics in and have music in the aux or Bluetooth.

Battery lasts about 10 hours.

I used 2 yesterday at the race because the coveragearea was spread out and the ambient noise would be much louder. 2 things you typically don't have for a ceremony.
But they worked perfectly. I really didn't need both when we went indoors, just quickly grabbed everything.

Just like the compacts, if you use them in the right scenarios, they are great. Expecting them to do something they can't will leave someone disappointed.

Oh man, now my credit card's itching............So you mean I could plug in both channels of my GTD 2-channel mic, then just run an audio cable to my laptop, and I'm good to go? Man, that's a game-changer. I gotta get me one of these.

Yep.

2 things I don't like so much:
The power button is a little soft, in my opinion. This can result in the power button getting turned on accidentally. I had it happen once where after I charged up the unit the night before when I got to the venue later the next day and took the unit or of the bag (not included, btw), the power was on an the charge was at 25%. It does have a quick charge option, which is nice, but still could be improved.

Party mode on the app which connects 2 speakers doesn't work right away sometimes and it takes several tries to connect both. Plus I've heard one speaker cut out momentarily a few times when in party mode. This needs some work.

Besides those things, Love them.

Back pack bag is $159. Pricey, but they are good bags and have freed up some hands so I could carry everything to the car at once. This is great for those ceremonies on the beach type ceremonies where a cart isn't going to help. There's a little room to carry some mics and cables too.

My problem is that there is no true battery meter. You just have to watch how many times the LED blinks. A true battery level indicator would be amazing.

Other than that, we use it for every ceremony. Up to 300 People. Always use an external mixer.

,I love the Bose S1 for what it is, but the Compact is a much better solution for weddings or any mobile event.

1. They sound better (way more headroom) + better low end.
2. Look better (don't nee tripod stand)
3. Can be used/setup with 0,1,2 of the included extension risers

The battery thing is a bonus, not something I would ever use. You still have to power a small mixer for anything serious, which includes any wedding ceremony. Running Bluetooth is not ideal and IMO, should not be used professionally.

Also, standing next to the speaker, and again, IMO doesn't look good, and to me is just lazy.

I know the Compact is more money, but I don't get all the hype with the S1. I have been offered one at almost no cost by a little birdie, and I turned it down, after I tried and tried to convince myself it could replace a compact.

The only way I would use them (how Scott uses them sometimes) is if I was running a signal from a Sennheiser bodypack (battery-powered, and super compact). Then I would buy 4 and place then all around as monitors for the ceremony, and maybe on the floor.

Then I would just have to power small ceremony rig (T4s and 3 QLXDs).

Just would have to remember to charge them every time.

When the little birdie calls again, send them my way .. :)

BTW, there are a number of battery powered mixers and wireless mic receivers out there (including bodypacks). I bought a Audio Technica 1800 series receiver for such needs .. dual receiver, works great (though now discontinued). 1800 Series Camera-mount UHF Wireless Systems (DISCONTINUED) - (https://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wls_systems/89aff02a96d55e38/index.html)

Once you own one, you'll wish you had two... not because one isn't enough (it is), but because the speaker is just so damn versatile that you'll use it more than you thought you would. Get yourself two, and thank me later.

If you don't need a backpack but do want a case for your S1, it fits in an Arriba AC-125 case nicely with a little bit of room for cables and accessories. The Arriba bag is about $110 less than the Bose backpack and built twice as tough.

I still have 3 compacts and love them. But for most ceramonies I do, the s1 is more than enough IMO. The reality is I never really pushed the compacts because if I needed more, I'd prefer to use an L1.

But I do agree the compact has more headroom. I just never needed i..or rarely.

the battery power is a big thing for me...just makes setup and deciding placement much easier.

I agree Bluetooth is not ideal, but can come in handy. But the aux is there also...just like the compact.

The battery is great, and if you use the bodypack transmitter for the receiver side of things, it becomes really portable. But again, I always need power b/c I am running a T4s and several mic receivers, so the fact that the speaker itself is battery doesn't speed things up, other than you don't have to run power, but I would still be running power for everything else.

I feel for cocktail hr, it's fine since you can tap off the main DJ setup (where there is power) and run a wireless signal for your signal.

I suppose the only way I could see myself using it is for the other side of the aisle. Run my main setup on one side where I can find power, and then throw this on the other side (fully battery with the bodypack). That is EXACTLY what I do now with my L1 Compact, only using a small portable battery to power the compact.

The S1 would eliminate that, and for someone getting into wireless, I would say go that route, but since I am invested in the QLXD setups, it makes no sense at all. Even if I used an S1 in this scenario, I would have to power the QLX receiver since it is not a bodypack or buy a whole other setup like the Sennheiser for this case.

The Compact run from a small battery, running aQLXD receiver for a wireless signal is a second close, plus upgraded sound and better looks. Instead of 30 seconds, it takes 2 minutes to set up.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks Steve! Saved me $12 I was able to cancel the other one and order the one you mentioned.

And thanks again to Brendan. I don't 2 backpacks but like them covered. You saved me $110

I love my Bose S1 Pro! :)

And I only use ONE Bose S1 for my wedding ceremonies. Sound is great, and I am happy with the speaker. It is all I use for ceremonies now FYI. Easy set up. Just love it! I also use the carry back pack. I bought mine from Cap!

So to those of you who just use this one speaker at a ceremony. Are you standing next to the speaker to control it?

I assume you just have one mic and one music source?

We do not. We run our wirelessly and put it towards the front and we are setup, with AC, towards the back. It's a totally wireless solution and works fantastic.

I typically am somewhat close to the equipment. I usually have 1 or 2 mics

djmm, so you are still using a full setup in the back though? What gear are you running and which wireless transmitter are you using to transmit to S1 (running on battery)

but all going through the S1 (using the inputs on back)?

That's exactly what I'd see as the way to use it. Velcro my GTD receiver to the side, put it on a stand with a little shelf clamped on to hold a laptop (Like Chuck's setup). Add my little Duracell power pack to power the wireless/laptop and it'd be the perfect ceremony rig.
