Black Lights

I do like the ECO bars - wondering how much throw they'll have.
They have very good throw. Lots of you tube vids to give you an idea.
When searching make sure you are looking at the newer bars that have the 3 watt not the orignal bars that only had 1 watt led's.

UV LEDS aren't quite Blacklight quality. 370nm is the peak wavelength to get things fluorescing .. LEDs barely get below 390nm and are more purple than UV. If you want to make white shirts light up, they are OK .. If you want fluorescent paint to pop, you really need fluorescent tubes or mercury vapor lamps. The ADJ UV Canon uses a mercury vapor bulb.

Yes, that's why in my first post I was wondering whether Tig wanted true blacklights or not.
There are a lots of the oldschool cannons starting to show up on Ebay now.
However because they are cannons with a beam angle of only 33 degrees, he would need 2 of them to cover the area specified. I don't know what his available power/circuts will be but that's 800 watts right there as compared to 120 watts for 2 of the eco bars.

If you went with the eliminator version which uses the same 400w mercury vapour bulb but is designed as a wash instead of a cannon, you could probably get away with only one.

There's also the ADJ HP which only use 160w each, but you would still need two of them for coverage.

If I didn't want to go LED, this is the fixture I would probably go with as they have good coverage but the fluorescent has no duty cycle like the mercury vapour units have.

One other thing to keep in mind is you will have to scale back on any use of regular wash lighting as any other significant light source will easily wash out the blacklight effect, so in that regard, your overall power consumption might not be an issue.

I just rent them from party central! 4 ft Florecent! 15 bucks a day! Hit her for 20 a day. 20 x 6= 120.00

One night the customer rented about 10 of these and ended up putting two of them across my dual 18 cabs,,,, needless to say by he end of the night they both vibrated off and broke! Whoops
Why would you allow a client to mount those light fixtures on your subs? As soon as they tried to I would have stopped them right away from doing so.

Although it is correct that the LEDs don't give the same black light affect as the florescent they do cause blacklight reactive items to glow. Most kids in high school and college may have never really seen true blacklight effects by fluorescents. Considering that almost all lighting is moving towards LED there's a high probability that mercury and florescent will be phased out in a few more years. When I first started to redo my black lighting show I first considered mercury and some of the other high powered non Led effects. But power usage, fragile lamps and heat Dismissed those ideas. I actually set up the black lights florescent and LED lights and went through all my party giveaways to find out which items work the best. Amazingly certain items really glow very bright under LED blacklights far brighter than you could ever achieve with florescent black lights. I ultimately decided to go with both a compact florescent fixtures and LED.

The UV effect on the Mega pars that I have works pretty good in my opinion with things glowing.

Yeah, if you are content with LED UV, then as a few have mentioned it might be a better investment to just buy some RGBWA+UV pars for versatility and general use in the future.
Now that costs have dropped significantly, if I was buying today I would probably go wireless as well.

I don't care what they put on top of the subs,, Just not a drink! I let people sit on them and stand on them at some shows. Although they kicked the grills in a couple of times, but I straightened them out! The dual 15 subs are almost 10 years old! They have seen some crap,in their life! The dual 18 sub cabs ,,,,,not so much time on them. They are in very good shape....not mint but no road scars yet! Those yamahas are built like tanks!

I also came across these ADJ screw ins for oldschool par38 cans:

BLB18W

There are a few good reviews on YouTube.
They are 9x2w led's and seem to have a pretty good throw.
They are also quite bright to look directly at (according to the videos anyway) as with a thirty degree beam angle they are more in spotlight/cannon territory than they are a wash.
