That's a LOT of sexually suggestive fare ..

They've dug a hole for you and stuck you in it. I wouldn't spend a lot of time, worrying about how to please them. Just show up, smile and put on a good dance. If they come back later and complain that you didn't have their list, politely remind them that they gave it to you too late. It's a coin toss whether they'll call you back next year but either way, don't worry about it and don't let it stress you today.

I'm not familiar with a lot of these, but I'll highlight the "winners" that I recognize from my recent proms. Keep in mind, I might be missing explicit material, but I don't remember anything glaring:

Bad and Boujee - Migos
Get Low – Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys (I won't even play the "clean" version of this again)
Turn Down For What – Lil Jon
No Hands – Waka Flocka Flame
No Problem – Chance the Rapper (kids like it but explicit)
Pony – Ginuwine
Freak Hoe – Speaker Knockers (no, explicit)
Work – Rhianna
Yeah! – Usher (already clean)
Booty Work – T Pain
Superman – Soulja Boy
Smack That – Akon
Right Round – Flo Rida

Sort of surprised these three are on your "haven't heard" list"

21. How Low – Ludacris
22.Roll Out – Ludacris
23.Remix to Ignition – R Kelly

I'm not sure if you're on any record pools, but there are creative ways to play songs without actually playing all of it. I found a mashup that runs Silento - Watch Me vocals over the beat from Humble on DMS. It's great, and I can get credit for playing humble without actually playing it.

You can also play Chorus Only super short edits. It's basically a drum intro, the chorus, and then you can be out of it. That's my plan for songs like Ispy and Rolex. You end up hitting 25 seconds of the song, the kids are happy they heard it, and you can be on to better music.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time, worrying about how to please them. Just show up, smile and put on a good dance.

I would definitely COMMUNICATE to them that their list is too long and too late for you to go through and "check" them. Simply state that you will do your best to keep the songs as clean as you can.

But again, don't go in blind! Make sure they know they know the limitations!

I gotta ask, why did you do this to yourself by not requiring the request list be submitted at least a couple of weeks ahead?

Until this year I've never had lists sent in..ever.

I've done nearly a dozen school dances, formals and such and not had a problem - they come up and request on the spot (i have a tablet for them to write on) and while I play clean songs, this is the first school to explicity demand clean songs and asked ME fora list of of what I've played at dances.

I did the local HS - physically they border eachother - and didn't get these songs requested...hence i don't know them.

I heard on the radio this morning that Blondie - Fun is the number one dance song in the nation right now. Gees, not on the list either! LOL.

I got most of what's on their list and yes, sexually explicit to say the least.

Didn't find superman by soulja boy..oh well a few others the same and many with no clean versions.

The challenge now is I don't know the songs - most are rap, a few I mihgt consider slow dance, panic at the disco is rock and shaggy is well, reggae or something along those lines.

Go wiht beat count and keys...and use the headphones a lot.

There is no Soulja Boy - Superman .. it's Soulja Boy Tell'em - Crank That

Ok, so was this list sent by someone on the dance "committee"?
If the school is adamant that you only play clean songs, then I guess there are no adults on the committee or none involved in making this list.

Either that or the kids are BS'ing them and telling the adults that yes they are all clean songs.
How do you know it's even a legit list and not just sent by one of the students who found your email address?

Eh... depends on who the advisors are. If they are younger then they might assume that whatever the list contains, you'll find or have the clean version. The Prom I did last week, when they booked me they asked me if I play clean versions. I said of course, but I want to double check what you mean by clean. I told the advisor that clean versions just mean that there won't be any curses, but the content remains unchanged for the most part. Teacher said as long as there are no curses, they're ok with the content.

ALl those songs mentioned should have clean versions available in terms of cursing... Perhaps that's all thats required of you to do.

My suggestion going forward since you never had this happen before would be to let them know besides a limit of songs on the list, that you list by a certain time. That way you don't get the list at the last minute. I would suggest that you let them know you need the list at least a week in advance. That way you have plenty of time to go over the list and find clean versions of the songs.

I'll do a more proper gig report..but at 1;30 i was told to announce the buses are ready, line up, etc at 1:40 to leave at 1:45.

At 1:39 a kid comes up and says 'we ALWAYS play a special song as the last song at our proms. I'll go get you the song name"...at 1:42, my last song playing..a teacher holds up a phone with 'vitamin C - graduation' as what they want..no, she doesn't have it but found it on google...thank god for apple music!

a) it came from the teacher's email address, the one that booked me.
B) she told me at the dance after introducint herself, to 'try and do you best..i know it was late notice"..

and of course on the second song, going into the third she comes up "how come nobody's dancing? You need to play the stuff on the list!" .. which I told her "I AM playing the stuff on the list...we, 2 of the 3 were" - it always takes time to get warmed up.

They were still all sitting from dinner...there were other activities (photobooth, psychic, henna tats, face painter, soda bar, cupcake bar) and NOBODY was at them either. But she said 'get it started' so I did.

clean meant no "F" word and no "N" word - I asked, er, told her that's what I understood it to mean..and mentioned than many of the songs had a very sexualized content and she was OK with that.

She did say they DJ last year refused to play songs with any such content - and the kids were not happy so that's why they changed DJs.

In my county there are 12 schools - including cyber - and FIVE had their proms the same friday night. About as many had them teh previous week's friday night.

The norm is they usually don't dance right away because they are worried about what their friends are going to think. They have an image to keep up. Then some are just there to hang out with their friends.

My thing with the music is as long as the staff and not the kids are OK with the songs then it would be a go. That DJ from last year made his mistake by not agreeing to play certain songs when the staff said it was OK.

Some act like sex is a new thing. What were you thinking and trying to get into as a teenager? Sex right? It's just that now it's more wider based then before. It's almost everywhere. That doesn't make it right. It's just what's happening today.

Cool, in my opinion that gives you a lot more leeway and less to worry about. That's how the schools are around here, so as long as I know I'm downloading clean versions from my pools and itunes, I know that I can dj as normal without worrying about content. It's the ones that are concerned about the actual content that I run from. Hope it went well!

Where on earth do you come up with these great suggestions???

Start limiting your request lists down to 20 or so. It's what I do for proms which makes them focus on the really popular stuff.

I gotta ask, why did you do this to yourself by not requiring the request list be submitted at least a couple of weeks ahead?
