Does anyone use "Pay Pal Here" for credit card payments? I received an email from Pay Pal about getting a free card reader and collecting credit card payments through them. There is a 2.75 % per swipe fee which is the same as most the others like Square. I signed up for Square after I posted a question here last year and that is what people suggested but had trouble getting it to work with my phone so I forgot about it. I have not had anyone try to pay by credit card but want to be prepared in case the day of the event thats the only way they have to pay. I read through past post but I did not see anything about Pay Pal Here . I state on my web site payments can be made via credit card and if some one wanted to pay with one I would do it through regular Pay Pal just looking for a easier option for my customers. Any information would be appreciated

Yes, I use it. The biggest problem, as I've heard it, is that when you have someone file a dispute that Paypal will pretty much automatically give them the money back. There doesn't seem to be a legitimate arbitration process. Paypal was very easy to implement on my website and booking contract.

Rick Do you use just Pay Pal or their new service called Pay Pal Here that uses a card reader they supply you that allows you to swipe a card from your phone or tablet?

I need to get the reader but no, I'm just using the website interface. There have been several times where I needed a virtual terminal or a reader.

Thanks for posting this. Like you I have been with Square now for a year and have used it only a handful of times with my customers. I am hoping to see some good feedback on this.

While both are easy to use, inquire as to the delay in getting the money from them to you. PayPal is habitually slower, sometimes a full week.

I use PayPal for on-line payments (3% vig) as I can include a mini-contract in the comments field even PayPal can understand. For in-person transactions (2.75% vig swiped), Square has been a great resource. Square payments are transferred to my bank account in just a couple of days.

PayPal is good, but needs to be handled properly. You have to actively follow up on charge back disputes, with detailed information. Also, a lot has to do with how much money you make them. If you made them $10,000 in the last year, they are likely to side with you, and not the buyer.

Will never go near PayPal again....had over 100 payments processed through them up through mid 2012....and they suddenly put a 21 day hold on all payments in my account without any explanation and recourse, pulled all the money out once the hold was done and closed my account, am Square only now

I have been with Pay Pal Pal 15 years now and never a problem. Payments are made to me withing two days. I use my American Express through Paypal when I am buying anything.

One bad about Paypal, I've noticed a number of clients whose card won't go through. Seems it's usually debit cards but I haven't fully nailed down the exact cause. Just seems some bank's debit cards won't process through paypal. It's caused a few hassles but nothing that's ever cost me a gig.

I've only had that problem if the card didn't have the Visa or Mastercard symbol on it.

There were some growing pains in the early days, but they seem to have it working fairly well these days.

My brother and Patrick are on the same page -- they won't use PP, but they will wire money via Western Union, which is about the biggest identity theft place in town!

Like any bank (online or brick and mortar) -- if you don't make them money, they will not service you properly. If you only put money in when you need to use it, you are costing them money. They are a business trying to make a profit. Would you service somebody if they were costing you money, instead of increasing your revenue...?

I had no issue with them at all until they pulled the 21 day hold crap and could give me no reason why they did it. All I got everytime I talked with them was "it was just part of our normal random account review process" and they never could give me any explanation or process to be taken out of the 21 day hold process.

My PP account was once terminated with no appeal. To be fair I was doing something shady - (cash advances for a friend) but a couple of phone calls got my account completely reinstated so I cannot really complain about Paypal.

When I first started doing international transactions in areas that are hotbeds for fraud (Middle East, Asia, etc) I had the 21 day hold placed on part of my funds. I was cheesed as hell but after a phone call and 14 days PP released the funds.

Keep about $10k or more in your PP account, and they will bend over backwards for you.

Not much different from Wells Fargo.

Even though Paypal has been very good to me I would never keep that much in my PP account knowing their reputation for locking people out with little to no recourse. Most of my hosting, designer, etc bills run through Paypal or their debit card. 90% of my incoming payments are through Paypal so they do make a fair amount of money off me in wire fees.

Backup funding is the way to go in my book. Any transaction that isn't covered by my PP balance is taken from my checking account. I used to be able to play the float and have a day or two to actually have the funds available in my checking account but now it's instantaneous.

I used to keep between $30-50k in my PP account. I don't have it at the moment, but they were very nice to me, and would call me once a week or so, to ask if there was anything they could do for me.

Money breeds money (and friends).

Did you buy that Poop Bucket from your Paypal Account? :laughing8:
