Sorry again but as im a complete noob ;) i can't work this out, got two quasar emerald lasers on my stand and have a dmx cable connecting them but the dipswitches i cannot work out, i understand the values etc but in the guidebook it says for example 5 - horizontal movement 221 - 255.. i read this as saying set the switches to anything between 221 and 255, and i do but nothing happens, as it says 5 - then the codes does that mean i need dipswtich 5 on and then the rest equal 255? but then the next one says 6 - vertical movement - 221 - 255.. so do i need 6 on, why are they the same! :p

I have a headache. heres the link if my description is terrible.. which it is.

Any help would be awesome :)

No .. 2 different things .. Device address and device command. You need to set the device to a static address (usually the 1st device is set to 1). The next device will normally be set to an address which is a multiple of the number of channels the controller supports. So if you have a 3 channel controller, the next device would be set to channel 4. If you have a 16 channel controller, the next device would be set to 17 (regardless of how many channels it used).

Then you would send the values (0-255) for each channel the device used.

Your laser is a 12 channel device, so your controller needs to be able to support at least 12 channels (I don't recall what you have). So for example, you set the laser to address "1" (dip switch 1 set to 1, all others to 0). Then on channel one of the controller, a value of 0-63 (0-1/4 up on the channel 1 fader) will turn off the laser, from values 64-127 (roughly 1/4 up on the fader to 1/2 way up, you get sound active, etc. If your controller has less than 12 channels of controll per DMX address, you will be limited in what you can do.

I don't actually have a dmx controller, i just have on linked to another and i want them both to do a strobe effect it says 3 - strobe 31-255.. which is strobe with 8 level adjustment it says, if i set 1 2 3 4 and 5 to the on position it does nothing, but that equals 31... is there something im doing wrong?

thanks by the way :)

All of those options are only available in DMX mode with a DMX controller. Without a DMX controller, your only option is Auto mode (dipswitch 1 & 10 only in the up position). I assume it cycles through a set of patterns. Setting the second unit to slave mode (dipswitches 2 & 10 up only) will cause it to mimic the patterns of the first.

To access all the strobing, rotations, etc., you NEED a DMX controller.

That may be where i was going wrong :p

So for example i have 2 kintas, 2 galaxians and the 2 lasers... they all have dmx mode, do i have to buy 3 dmx controllers? i really have no idea about lighting, ive seen some obey 3 things that cost like 35 quid, maybe 3 of them?

1 controller, 6 cables to daisy chain the lights, 1 DMX terminator for the last device. You'd want at least an Obey 10 (or 40). They each handle devices with up to 16 channels apiece. The 10 handles 8 devices, the 40 will do 12.
