AC Powered Laptop cooler???

I think I mentioned this in the last goofy cooler thread, but for those that didn't read it before, I am an IT Director in my day job and of the 30,000-ish laptops that I have been resposible for over the past 2 decades I have never had one with thermal issues that wasn't fan problem related. We have had some laptops running product demos that ran 7x24 for well over a year.

Mine run 24 x 365 -- no problems, except the one with the fan hanging up. Once the fan started slowing down due to the rubbing, it shut itself off a couple times when the sun was on it. That's the only heat issue I've ever had in my entire career of using laptops (which spans a couple decades).

Ricky, the laptop from the 70's / 80's doesn't really count as a laptop. It's more like a trailer top.

;)

Yer a little young to remember the lunch boxes... ;)

We were using them during Desert Storm, right before the first "real" lappys came out. Portable, albeit not exactly easy to carry. The guys used to send up weather balloons with wireless modems/repeaters attached, so we could communicate across the desert. Pretty cool stuff :)

I must not be that young because I know them too!

Yes Scott, but what if the laptop is housed in an enclosed space? Mine is and I wouldn't risk using it in a warm room or on a hot day without a little help.

In your rack it looks great with the tight fit and I wouldn't change that. I would use a small (but quiet) exhaust fan to extract hot air from on the same side that the laptop vents and provide a cool air inlet source on the opposite side.
