Ever hear of Windows ME or 2000....way bigger blunders, someones always going to complain no matter what they do...same thing happened with XP, only thing though is like you said savior...Billy G promised 14 second start up and instint program start up...personlly I think he just went in over his own head:sqrolleyes:

WinME was definitely one of Microsoft's biggest blunders, but Win2K was one of the most stable and most prolific of IBM-compatible OS ever produced. XP had it's faulty beginning and now after seven years of band-aids, is a very reliable option. Vista is simply a resource hog like none that came before it as well as having the usual spectacular rainbow of Microsoft issues relating to security, compatibility and stability.

But Charles, Vista's bells & whistles eye candy is more important than its stability and functionality!

Ah silly me, what was I thinking?!

It reminds me of this one dude I used to know - he had one of the greatest looking classic muscle cars in the region. He had this 1970-something Dodge Charger all chromed out, racing seats and steering wheels, some sort of astronomically expensive paint job that had all sorts of colors depending on how the sun hit it, etc. It looked fabulous and had all the latest electronic gizmos to squeeze more horsepower out of the engine, but he could never keep the thing running long enough to actually drive it, much less race it.

You can give a turd an awesome paint-job, but it's still a turd...

PS: The new logo looks great! Jam do that?

I would still use 2K but for some reason Mixmeister 6 dosen't like it

Yeah, that seems to be the way of things anymore - as programmers develop new tools they tend to drop support for older OSs such as 2K. Unfortunately that means that if you keep updating your DJ program, sooner or later you are forced to also upgrade the OS on your CPS.

I already have several copies of XP Home and Media Edition collecting dust, but I have started looking for a 64-bit version of XP Pro on sale.

One has to -- the newer OS's have many new features, that do not work (or exist) on the older ones.

Still driving a horse and buggy, eh Charles...? ;) :)

Dunno about the whole horse n buggy thing, but I do know that it is never a good idea to be one of the first to jump on the latest Microsoft OS disaster... er, I mean bandwagon. And the recent trend of folks abstaining or even downgrading from Vista tells me that the results of my research two years prior were pretty much on the mark again - as is evidenced by the recent announcement that Microsoft will be extending support for XP until 2014 as well as pushing a program for folks with Vista to downgrade to XP until Windows 7 hits the shelfs.

Heck, I was so delighted by the news that I finally went out and got me a 64-bit version of XP Pro to upgrade some minor utilities on my CPS. I'll continue running 2K Pro on all my other puters for the time being though.

I have been using Vista and Rockit since February. When I first bought the computer I thought that I was in for problems after reading all the post on how bad Vista is.

I have only had one problem with the system during a show and it was not a software problem! I had my equipment right below an A/C vent and did not know I was under the vent until a song locked up on the system. I then found water on the external hard drive and saw that I was below the vent.

I switched to my cd player and rebooted the computer and covered the hard drive with some plastic. No more problems since and I have done several outside shows in the high heat and humidity.

I for one am glad that I did buy a Vista System.

I'm using the 64 bit retail version of Vista Ultimate, and it works flawlessly :)

Boots up in less than 10 seconds, and is a speed demon!

I didn't like the OEM Home Premium version that came on the machine, as it had tons of junk added by the manufacturer.

I think that's the biggest problem with Vista's image -- people aren't seeing it as MS built it, they are seeing it as the computer manufacturer put it together for their machine...

BTW, if yer waiting for "Windows 7", ya might just as well get Vista -- because the next version just builds upon Vista's feature set -- evolution as it were ;)

I agree, the Home versions that come pre-installed are too much garbage, pro-versions are definitely the route to go especially with a CPS. Oh and I'm not holding my breathe for Windows 7 either, I will not be jumping on that bandwagon when it comes around.

It will be interesting to see where Linux ends up between now and 2014... ;)

I too am running vista 64 Pro.
8GB of Ram
10000RPM Raptor
Core 2 Quad 2.66GHZ

Had problems booting. Took 5 minutes to boot.

Then SP1 came out and I'm gold.

I can render video about 3X normal playback using ProShow Gold by Photodex. Beat the hell out of my athlon 64 and my iBook.
