$600 for a pair of Martin Acrobats?

Yup, it's actually runs programs that are built into the Acrobat which is why you can also use a DMX controller to access the same programs. As for just pushing a button, yes. For slow dances, just press Slow stand-alone. Pressing the Music trig button after SLOW will give you a Slow Plus mode perfect for songs like Under the Boardwalk or Brown Eyed Girl. The way I get it to freeze on the nice slow moving white pattern (like in the video) is to hit the Slow button again quickly WHILE the pattern is happening. If you do that, it will freeze on that scene. I throw a towel over it and freeze the pattern then set to black-out ready for the first dance.
For general dancing, press Med. stand-alone. Those look fantastic. Again, is the MC1 pre-programmed with the various patterns? Thanks for posting these. Kinda turning me back towards buying them.

Ah, thanks Jon, that explains a lot. Looks like it's not DMX so there goes my thoughts of putting it in the rack and using wireless. Might be easier to just keep it with the fixtures and set it on the table.
Nah, they're talking about the colored dots that fixtures like my revo4, vue6, etc. put out. My scorpion laser hasn't been used in over 2 years and the blisslight they love (I do turn it off during 1st and parent dances). I'm leaning towards getting the acrobats and try them out this weekend. My Saturday is a short, 3-hr event at a Methodist Church.

For my standard events, I'm finding that people are fine with a simple wash effect. I've got a Chauvet 4-Bar for that.
For the clients that want to pay more for lighting, I've got moving heads and truss totems. They'll gladly spend the money for that look. Upselling a pair of Acrobats is not as easy anymore.
Rick, yes they are DMX so you can run them wireless. In DMX mode, you can even set it to one-channel mode and control all the same functions that you can with the MC1 by sliding the channel slider up and down. The manual explains it all and can be found on the Martin website.
I skipped buying them way back when... they were $350 at the time. I hadn't really been interested in the barrel scanner... until I actually saw one in action. Now I have 4 of them, and wish I had more (thanks to Jon). It's one of the best, most versatile scanners I have (heavy as tanks), but are a show all by themselves. I have an appt set to pick these up tomorrow. I'm especially stoked that they're DMX. After looking at Tyrone's video (thanks, bro) it gave me the idea that I might just replace my Scan led200s with the acrobats. 2 barrel and 2 flat mirror scanners, along with a colorstrip should make for a really solid setup. In smaller situations, the acrobats by themselves will probably be more than enough. Thanks for the input guys.
LOL find a nice used Wizard Extreme and watch out! A** kicking light!. I have one, and 4 MX-4 moving mirrors, and an EFX800. Now I put 5 colorstrips on top of my truss and DMX it all with a Leviton MLC 128R controller. This kicks butt however the upcharge is $500. It'll sell usually 3-4 times a year. I have 20' Square Global Truss box truss and some big Global Truss tripods to set it all up on.

Ain't it funny how all the "really cool lights" seem to be Martin fixtures that are discontinued?
Just picked them up. 2 Acrobats, MC-1, DMX cables and Arriba carry bags with them, 5-bills. The look brand new, not a single ding or scratch anywhere. The guy had literally used them for his own wedding and a wedding for a friend. He'd bought DJ gear to do his wedding and had intended to go into biz with a partner but it didn't pan out. He's got a pair of Mackie 450 powereds and pair of Mackie k-subs (think that was the one, dual-12s) he's trying to get rid of. I told him not to do mail-order but if any of you regulars want a shot at them you can probably get them cheap and practically brand new. Just send me a PM.
I used the new pair of acrobats Saturday at a wedding. Had them mounted on my t-bar with a colorstrip on top. Just as you guys said, wow, that's a lot of show! The MC-1 is extremely easy to use and perfect for the job. Did have two problems. Mounting them was a pain. I used o-clamps and slipped them onto the end of the T. Too heavy. Had a hard time putting them on and when trying to take them off I almost fell and ended up breaking the collar on the stand. Second problem was tilt. Hanging straight down, they don't throw very far. I had the T about 8 feet behind my table, cranked to about 10 feet and most of the light was hitting my table. I'm thinking either I'll have to bolt-mount them and crank the bar around so they're angled better or I may just use a single unit and mount it with an o-clamp to the center post. I've got a corp gig on Saturday and thinking I might do that and hang a pair of flat-mirror scanners to the t-bar. Any thoughts?
Rick, if you want you can use Crank style stands for your speakers and mount the Acrobats vertically under each speaker on the pole. That is where I mount my ADJ Revo or Chauvet Vue. The weight of the speaker will keep it from toppling over.
That's exactly what I was thinking. So just use 1 per stand or do you ever mount 2, 1 on top of the other?
