2Tb WD My Passport Ultra External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - $65

A SSD SHOULD outperform a typical hard drive in read speed .. Issues might arise based on block sizes and such, though these days, most gear has been standardized. I did a quick search and couldn't find any how-to videos, but it seems that the Hyundai USB ports provide enough current for a HD.That won't make it go any faster though. Might make it go slower.
From what I'm reading, this is the 'Tech Package' on the Elantra and it's 1GB of storage. If it's true, this is most likely flash memory.

✽ NOTICE - USING THE My Music
• Even if memory is available, a maximum of 6,000 songs can be stored.
• The same song can be copied up to 1,000 times (why this is in the instructions is beyond me).
• Memory info can be checked in the System menu of Setup
NOTE: The manual also says to not have the USB plugged in when you start the vehicle, as it can damage the USB device .. so don't keep something on these usb devices that isn't replaceable.

I tried a 320GB Western Digital passport external pocket-sized hard drive. The USB port in the Elantra fully powered and was able to read the drive all off of the same wire...no external power was needed. Only thing is, it took nearly 10 minutes for the music to start playing. Probably didn't help that there were almost 20,000 songs on it and of course a hard drive's access time is going to be much slower than flash memory. I probably wouldn't bother with that again...or if I did...maybe take down the number of folders/songs a few notches.

Well Jim, sounds like a 32 or 64Gb flash would be the limit anyway.
