Anyone else having this problem with Yahoo?

I just opened my email and there were over 700 messages in it, all of them like this:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at p13.pontoserver.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

The thing is, each of them is being send from a different made up "@rockthemicmanagement.com" address.

Anyone else having this problem? And how can I stop it!!!
 
Someones spoofed the account thats why
you need to block the address *@<address>.com etc ....

see what yahoo help tells you
 
As Dennis mentioned, your domain is being used to spoof spam being sent by someone.

They use random names @yourdomain.com, because they know you have a valid domain name. They can't use their own, because it is illegal to send that crap.

It's a random thing, as they send to random addresses, using random addresses from valid domains. If for some reason the message can't get to a recipient (e.g. they don't exist, mailbox full, etc.), they get bounced back to your catchall email address.

Not a whole lot Yahoo (or any ISP) can do about it, except maybe catch who's sending them, and hanging them by their testicles!


I get hundreds a day, and I just filter them into the junk email box with a rule.

Basically the same I use -- it trashes my legit bounces as well :sqfrown:

I basically rely on the folks to call me now, as given the amount of spam you get when you have an internet business, it's just not worth it to look through a few hundred, or thousand junk messages a day.

I'm even filtering my phone traffic now -- if it comes in as Out of Area or blocked, they get sent packing without even a ring on my end :)
 
We tried the no private callers things too, it worked until my technophobic aunt couldn't get through and hadn't even realized her number was private and she didn't understand the *87 thing either. :dontknow:

Here at home our package comes with caller ID, so if a call comes from a blocked number or a number I don't know, I let the machine pick up. Same for my cell.

A friend of mine has interesting service through Sprint. If your number is private, the phone rings on the callers end a machine picks up and you say your name. The answering service rings their phone plays the recording and they choose weather to accept or not.

Since I really hate talking on the phone I normally say something stupid like "The Grim Reaper" :sqlaugh:

Yessh, and here I thought technology was supposed to keep us in touch not place barriers in between communication.

Anywho on to the mail rules, I'm thinking of creating two separate rules in theory it should work but I haven't tested it yet.

Rule 1:

If subject = Mail Delivery OR Mailer daemon

AND

Body contains = {the email addresses you want bounce messages for}

Then deliver to inbox

Rule 2:
If subject = Mail Delivery OR Mailer daemon

Move to trash

Now give rule one a higher priority (normally by moving it up on the list) thus processing for body text would take place first moving the ones you want before they get processed based only on the subject line.

Edit now ya got me thinking.. Look when you done did Rick! :D

Another two rule maneuver:

Rule 1:
If recipient = {email address you want bounces for}
AND
Subject = Mail Delivery OR Mailer daemon
Deliver to Inbox

Rule 2:
Same as #2 above.
 
If it's any help, I use an old Yahoo freemail account as a spam dump. Ya never know who (or what) is gonna spread your email addy around and hand it to the spam bots. :rolleyes:

The bank we deal with is a sad example of this. Upon signing up for online banking some years ago, we got spammed. So we changed our contact addys to the Yahoo accounts.

Recently, my redirect at USODJA got found by the spammers and spoofers. The crap was coming in at a rate of one every minute or so. It still is. I had the redirect changed to the old Yahoo spam dump account.
 
A slight side note: In my opinion, Yahoo! is the only search engine worth a darn...Google and Ask are just about worthless.

If you don't believe me, a good test (and ego boost): do a search on all three for your business. Whether you know it or not, Yahoo! will probably cough up a page or two, while the others will probably come up with an entry or two.

Feel free to use "Joe Chartreuse Karaoke" :sqlaugh: I get around a page out of Yahoo! and I don't even have a dedicated website!
 
Google also brings up a lot of eBay and Amazon items in a search. Try a search for the Vue III and you'll see what I mean.

Even if you're not looking for a Vue seller, you'll have to wade through several For Sale hits to find a general information page on it.
